I also withheld you from sinning
na‘a ku ta‘ofi koe mei he fai angahala
Senesi 20 (Genesis 20)
(v. 6) And God said to him in a dream, “Yes, I know that you did this in the integrity of your heart. For I also withheld you from sinning against Me; therefore I did not let you touch her.
(v. 6) Pea folofola ‘a ‘Elohimi kiate ia ‘i he misi, ‘Io, na‘a ku ‘ilo pē ‘oku ‘atā ho loto ‘i ho‘o fai ko ia, ko ia foki na‘a ku ta‘ofi koe mei he fai angahala kiate au, ‘a ‘ikai te u tuku ke ke ala ki he fefine.
*Commentary: Matthew Poole*
I also withheld thee, partly by my restraining grace, and partly by my powerful providence, and the plague mentioned ver. 17. Which plainly shows that ignorance is not always an excuse for sin. See Luke 12: 48. This sin, though directly committed against Abraham and Sarah only, is said to be against God, as other such sins are, Gen. 39:9; Psal 51: 4, because it was against God's command written in men's minds, though not yet published by express word or writing; and against God's honour; and that here in a particular manner, because it would have rendered Isaac's original, and thereby God's promise, doubtful.

GOD IS . . . (KO E ‘OTUA, ‘OKU . . )
GOD IS TRIUNE
Doctrine...
Because the Scriptures ascribe divinity to three persons but also emphatically affirm that there is one God, Christian theologians in the early church spoke of what has become the Christian theological term Trinity. What is abhorrent to Jews and Muslims is most precious to Christians.

Ignorance is no excuse for sinning!!! Enough said. Great passage this morning.
ReplyDeleteHope y’all have a great day!!!
I "share" the link of the blog on my Facebook page daily and write a little summary of each day's reading or a thought. Here's today's:
ReplyDelete"BEHOLD, YOU ARE A DEAD MAN..." (Gen 20:3) Harsh words by God spoken in a dream to King Abimelech of Gerar. Abraham journeyed south after the destruction of Sodom & Gomorrah. After lying that Sarah was his sister (technically, his 1st cousin) to protect himself (he did the same thing in Chap 12) the king took Sarah for himself.
Even in the affairs of a heathen king, God saw to it that the promise seed (Isaac) would be preserved. God protected baby Jesus from wicked king Herod in the New Testament to preserve His Chosen seed - Jesus Christ.
The people of God DO NOT FEAR outward changes (even in governments & rulers) for HE IS STILL IN CONTROL - PROVIDENTIALLY RULING to bring everything in conformity to HIS PLAN & ULTIMATE GLORY! In spite of ourselves (Abraham's behavior).
I feel that "Ignorance is no excuse for sinning" in today's reading is taken out of context without reading the full story.
ReplyDeleteApimeleki took Sela from Epalahame because he said she was his sister and she also said he was her brother. Why would Apimeleki think otherwise? He didn't almost commit sin because of his Ignorance but lack of honesty from Sela and Epalahame. If they were honest from the beginning there wouldn't have been any misunderstand. Therefore, Apimeleki and his entire household would have died without any knowledge of the truth but thankfully he was warn and saved by God in the end.
Lesson: Be honest despite fear. I know I construed certain things many times when I communicate or relay a story for my benefit. It's a lesson easier said than done but that's why it's a lesson for me today.
Malo Peni e taki e lea mo’oni 😀 we all try in some way shape or form for “save our own skin” - Fakafeta’i he ‘oku kei ma’olunga ange pe ‘a hono tokanga’i kitautolu he’etau Tamai faka-Langi. All of our “human” schemes and “kākā” will never thwart God’s plan.
Delete“I withheld you from sinning”! What a powerful statement!
ReplyDelete“The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he will.”
Proverbs 21:1 ESV
Yes! Very powerful that I just had to sit in awe and ponder on the many occasions in my life where God came to the rescue! I'm not proud because I feel so ashamed in His presence. All I can say is that I'm grateful for such a God! Fakafeta'i atu Sisu!

Ko eku lea pe ia FAKAFETA'I.
Mea mahuinga/ lessons for me:
* koe ete lea'aki e mooni so you're not putting anyone in danger or cause them/ourselves to sin in God's eyes.
* Think of others and not just yourself (Sarah and abraham lied to save themselves and almost cause Apimeleki to sin)
* God always saved his people and not abandoned his own.
i think ignorance os not an excuse for sinning is an interesting claim. i think people will interpret just that in many different ways. but ignorance does happen to be very thing that many people are ignorant about. (if that makes sense) ignorance is a very complicated thing because often times we dont want to admit were being ignorant. and the fact that ignorance is not an excuse for a sin makes me think about accountability. i feel like ignorance is a segway to a whole other can of worms. that statement is just super super interesting to me. because whats the importance of IGNORANCE over other major emotions and actions. its just an interesting statement very very bold.
