My rainbow...sign of the covenant

‘ai ‘eku ‘umata ...ko e fakaʻilonga fuakava

Senesi 9 (Genesis 9)

(v. 13) I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.

(v. 13) kuo u ‘ai ‘eku ‘umata ‘i he ngaahi ‘ao; pea ‘e hoko ia ko e faka‘ilonga fuakava ‘i he vaha‘a ‘o‘oku mo māmani.

*Commentary: David Guzik study notes*

It shall be for the sign: Every time we see a rainbow, we should remember the faithfulness of God and every one of His promises. He even says His covenant of peace with us is just as sure as His covenant with Noah and all generations (Isaiah 54:9-10).

of the covenant. I will look on it to remember the everlasting covenant: The other mentions of a rainbow in the Bible are set in the context of God’s enthroned glory (Ezekiel 1:28; Revelation 4:3 and 10:1). It is staggering to see God, in His glory, setting so close to Himself a reminder of His promise to man.

GOD IS . . . (KO E ‘OTUA, ‘OKU . . )

Knowing God

Do you want your soul expanded? Listen to Spurgeon, who surely knew something about such expansion. But before you read on, note that he rightly connected the science of Christ with the knowledge of God as the way to make one spiritually healthy. The revelation of God shows Christ, who in turn discloses God. God created all things in order to glorify his Son (Col. 1:16), and the Son comes to reveal the Father (Matt. 11:25-27; John 17:5-6,26). By the Spirit we enter this world of supernatural revelation, in which we can joyfully declare that through Christ we know God, which is eternal life.

‘Oku ke loto ke fao ho laumālie´? Fanongo ki he lau ‘a Sipeisone´, ko e tangata ‘oku maheni mo e moʻui ‘oku tupulaki´. Kimuʻa pea ke hoko atu´, fakatokangaʻi ‘a ‘ene hanga ‘o fakafehokotaki ‘a e saienisi ‘o Kalaisi´ mo e ‘ilo ki he ‘Otua´, ko e founga ia ki he moʻui lelei faka-laumālie´. Ko levelēsio (fakahā meʻa) ‘o e ‘Otua´, ‘oku ne fakaeʻa mai ‘a Kalaisi pea fakaʻilo mai ‘e Kalaisi ‘a e ‘Otua´. Naʻe fakatupu ‘e he ‘Otua´ ‘a e ‘univeesi´ ke fakalangilangiʻi ‘a e ‘Alo´ (Kolose 1:16) pea hoko mai ‘a e ‘Alo´ ke ne fakahā mai ‘a e Tamai´ (Matiu 11:25-27; Sione 17:5-6, 26). ‘Oku fou ‘i he Laumālie´ ‘etau aʻusia ‘a e fuʻu koloa tatala meʻa fakatuʻanatula ko eni, pea lava ai ke tau Kalanga fiefia, koeʻuhi´ ko Kalaisi, ‘oku malava ke tau ‘ilo ai ‘a e ‘Otua´, ‘a ia ko e moʻui taʻengata´ ia!

  1. The symbolism of the rainbow has become known for something else these days but as a Christian it always reminds me of the covenant in Noah and also the University of Hawaii Rainbow Warriors.
It is the reminder to myself that God's promise is not that of a human promise which can easily be broken. It is also an encouragement that the journey on this Earth is temporary and our promise of eternal life through Christ hasn't changed. And in that promise I have strength no matter the turmoil I face in my journey.

  2. It amazes me that after all we did, God sets no conditions for this covenant. He knew we couldn't keep up but more importantly, He wanted us to know that His grace is sufficient. Always has and always will be! Thus, every time I see a rainbow, it reminds me of God's faithfulness and unconditional love! Lord, I pray that as we receive your grace, may you draw us closer to you and farther away from sin. In the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

    2 Corinthians 12:9
And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.
    Rom 6:1-3

    Romans 6:1-2
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?

    Romans 5:8
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
