Then Jacob kissed Rachel
Pea na‘e ‘uma ‘e Sēkope kia Lesieli
Senesi 29 (Genesis 29)
(v. 11) Then Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice and wept.
(v. 11) Pea na‘e ‘uma ‘e Sēkope kia Lesieli, ‘o ne hua‘aki ‘ene fu‘u fākafoa.
*Commentary: Matthew Poole*
And Jacob kissed Rachel. Jacob kissed Rachel, as the custom of friends then was, both at their first meeting, as verse 13; Gen. 33:4; Exod. 4:27; 18:7, and at their departure, as Ruth 1:14; 1 Sam. 20:41; 1 Kings 19:20. Wept tears of joy, like those Gen. 33:4, at the gracious providence of God to him, which had brought him safe to his desired place, and so happily and strangely conducted him to that person and family which was so desirable and dear to him.

GOD IS . . . (KO E ‘OTUA, ‘OKU . . )
GOD IS TRIUNE
In Christ
In Christ, the triunity of God is revealed. The Trinitarian workings of God are stamped all over Jesus's life in the pages of the New Testament. While all outward works of God can be attributed to each of the three persons, certain outward works of God - depending on what they are - can be attributed more particularly to one of the three persons. In the incarnation of the Son of God, for example, we see a beautiful Trinitarian work.

10) Now as soon as Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother’s brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother’s brother, Jacob came near and rolled the stone from the well’s mouth and watered the flock of Laban his mother’s brother.
ReplyDelete18) Jacob loved Rachel. And he said, “I will serve you seven years for your younger daughter Rachel.”
20) So Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they seemed to him but a few days because of the love he had for her.
25) Why then have you deceived me?”
30) he loved Rachel more than Leah, and served Laban for another seven years.
31) When the Lord saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren.
** I have selected these verses to highlight Jacob's journey as a single man in search of a wife, maybe you have seen these characteristics (types). JACOB in verse 10 displayed CHIVALRY (old school, but still needed in our day). In verse 18, SACRIFICE (key component in any relationship). He was DEVOTED/COMMITTED in verse 20 (no relationship can survive without this). In verse 25, he was TESTED - and he tasted his own medicine (the deceiver was himself deceived)- again, life is a series of "TESTS" - to "firm" us up or to "reveal" our own fallibilities - NOTHING IS HIDEN - our vices, shortcomings - secret sin will eventually come out in the open - deal with them now. Repent and turn them over to God. Verse 30, we see his PREFERENCE of Rachael over Leah (you can't "love" 2 people - be single in your devotion and love - STOP "PLAYING THE FIELD") And through it all - GOD SHOWS JACOB (and all of us) that HE IS SOVEREIGN! In spite of "us" and our wanderings - our prejudices - our going off course - God works His will to bring about His purposes.
Let us take advantage of all these "life lessons" from God's people at their expense. We don't need to "circle back" and commit the same mistakes. Through His Holy Spirit, we can be empowered and enlightened to take the road He has cleared for us. And yes, even when we spend "years" working for our own goals, HE STILL RE-DIRECTS OUR PATHS AS WE ACKNOWLEDGE HIM IN OUR WAYS.
i think its interesting to see how some traditions and habitual things change through generations. also i think often times we overlook the importance of thanking God for getting somehwere safely. especially now that we can drive , ride the bus , max , or plane. i think that is a think some people take for granted, i know i do sometimes. i go to school every morning but i often forget to thank God for getting me to my desired location without any harm. i have to work on thanking God for getting to locations safely because i am a mobile boy who is often not home and alot of things can happen in a 24 hour day.
ReplyDeleteThat’s right Leti. May we continue to be more aware of our surroundings and appreciate and grow to love the journey we are on. To thank God for His many gifts we take for granted. To strive to be more like Him, in thought and deed.
DeleteThank you for being a good and positive contributor to this blog.
As a single person I can relate to Jacob's journey. I'm on the same journey to finding Mrs. Right...Sai Ke mou ilo....
ReplyDeleteWe can see today how powerful just one of our senses is, the eyes. Our eyes lead us into trouble or into blessings. The saying; make a good first impression is an example. We as humans are judgemental being and if someone says they're not, they are lying. We judge others based on our values, our likes and dislikes not on who they are as a person and what they have to offer.
I'm thankful that God doesn't treat us the same. Whether we like it or not, he already knows each of our individual struggles and demons and he doesn't judge us base on what his values (because we fall short everyday. Pea Koe lami ia ikai hano mele pe ila) but according to what we have to offer and where we are as an individual.
Malo Peni - “nice to know” 😅 “This” well - community of Bible seeking believers is the best place to “hang out” - to gain insight and be sharpened by others of “like mind” - may we seek Him 1st and foremost and allow His Spirit to dominate our “mindset” and shave away worldly influences and leave only the precious stones to glitter for His approval and maybe, but His amazing grace, lead us (you) to your “Rachael” if that is His will for you.🙏🏽
