shall be God’s house

‘e hoko ia ko e fale ‘o e ‘Otua

Senesi 28 (Genesis 28)

(v. 22) And this stone which I have set as a pillar shall be God’s house, and of all that You give me I will surely give a tenth to You.

(v. 22) pea ko e maka ni, ‘a ia kuo u fokotu‘u ko e pou, ‘e hoko ia ko e fale ‘o e ‘Otua; pea ‘ilonga ha me‘a te ke ‘omi kiate au te u mātu‘aki ‘atu hono vahe hongofulu kiate koe.

*Commentary: Matthew Poole*

God's house, i. e. a place where I will offer prayers and sacrifices to God; such places being commonly called God's houses, and God is oft said to dwell in them, in regard of his special presence there. See Exod. 20:24. Compare ver. 17 of this chapter, and Gen. 35: 1, 3, 7.

I will surely give the tenth unto thee, to be laid out in thy service, and for sacrifices, and for the use and benefit of those who shall attend upon sacred things; as also for the relief of the poor and needy, whom God hath substituted in his room, and shall to whom part of the tithes were to be given by a following law, Deut 14:28,29.

*Tohi Vete: Matiu Pulu*

GOD IS . . . (KO E ‘OTUA, ‘OKU . . )

GOD IS TRIUNE

Doctrine...

And the Westminster Confession of Faith gives us an excellent synopsis of the doctrine of the Trinity:

In the unity of the Godhead there be three persons, of one substance, power, and eternity; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost. The Father is of none, neither begotten, nor proceeding; the Son is eternally begotten of the Father; the Holy Ghost eternally proceeding from the Father and the Son. (2.3)

Ko e ‘Otua´ ko e Tolu-ʻi he-Taha

‘I he tuʻunga taha ‘o e ʻUluʻi-ʻOtua´, ‘oku ‘i ai ‘a e pesona ‘e toko tolu, ‘oku nau taha ‘i he uho, ivi mo e tuʻunga lauikuonga; ko e ‘Otua ko e Tamai, ‘Otua ko e ‘Alo, mo e ‘Otua ko e Laumālie Maʻoniʻoni. Ko e Tamai´, ‘oku moʻui ‘iate Ia pe, ‘ikai fakatupu pe fou mei ha toe potu; ko e ‘Alo´, ko e tupu tonu lauikuonga mei he Tamai´; ko e Laumālie Maʻoniʻoni´ ko e fou lauikuonga mei he Tamai´ mo e ‘Alo´.

  1. Genesis 28:15 Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.

God is with us and He will complete His works in our lives. Jus as he promised Jacob. He did not mention how long it will take, nor the speed in which He will perform His works. But our confidence lie on His promises. HE WILL COMPLETE IT!

Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.

Romans 11:29 For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.

    1. Fakafeta’i ki he ‘Eiki, Taukimonū. We love Him because He “first” loved us - and with an everlasting love at that. How amazing that He should die for me? We are sojourners - pilgrims in a strange land. Ko e kau mulí kitautolu ka kuo tau nofo lata heni. Oh, Lord - may we yearn for you and take us back to the place where you 1st made yourself real (revelation) to us!! ..... [ on our face before His - Coram Deo] 🙌🏽🙏🏽❤️

  2. Api Ko Peteli (v19) is the name my dad blessed our house with here in Ontario, CA 💙 Jacob set up an alter and made a vow with God, and prayed upon that pillar of sacrifice that it be the house of God. He also vowed that he’d give the tenth of his earning back to God, and that’s something I’m grateful to say that I do with every pay check...My parents have taught us the importance of giving back to God what He has blessed us with, and although sometimes I fail to do it when I get one of my pay checks because of bills or just wants of the flesh, but I have to remind myself never to forget who is allowing me to get this money in the first place!! Since the first Sunday of this year and making an oath with God and keeping it, I see that this should be added to my oaths and that’s to never forget where my blessings come from, and to always give back at least a tenth of everything I have back to who is allowing me to partake in the blessings 🥰 Have a great day everyone, and stay blessed💯

  3. Long are the days of burnt offering, animal sacrifice and Temples were the only place of worship. And where the Levites were the only ones close to God.
Now, any place we deem fit can become a temple. A place to worship God at our conveniences and at our freedom. Whether it's at a church, at home or through the web or even in our bedroom there's no excuse in not worshipping God. And for that I am thankful. We are not limited by our means to pray but by our excuses.

  4. 16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.” 17 And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.”

WHAT an ENCOUNTER of the HIGHEST ORDER! a weary traveler, an open field, a hard pillow and the sweetest of dreams. Wow! until he was "afraid" - a holy fear - reverence for the Almighty.

When I was younger, I would often use the word "awesome" every time I expressed joy, wonder, amazement etc. Now, I reserve it for GOD alone! and God related events. Jacob here says, "HOW AWESOME IS THIS PLACE"! It was not a mansion in Beverly Hills or in Dubai. It was an empty field, dusty with tumble weeds & rocks... But it was AWESOME! GOD WAS THERE! Beth-El - House of God! Oh that we "return" to this place - the place where we first encountered God. and to tremble in His presence. To make fresh commitments. To devotion - to surrender.... to LIVE CORAM DEO [ before the FACE of God ]

  5. “God's house, i. e. a place where I will offer prayers and sacrifices to God;“ i think this part is very important to understand, because often times we may put off our church and bible because it isnt sunday or it isnt church. or we sometimes we act differently when we are in our houses and school then how we act at church. it kinda just stands out to me because there shouldnt be a difference in the way we act and do things because everywhere can be a place of worship for God. you should always be trying to find a way to glorify God in ever place and situation because every place and experience is something special from God. which i have a hard time doing and need to work on. i shouldnt change the way i act and carry myself at different places , i should live my life trying to grow closer to God. because every chance i get should be a chance to thank and praise God. need work on that
