God remembered Noah...

Pea manatu ‘a e ‘Otua kia Noa

Senesi 8 (Genesis 8)

(v.1) Then God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the animals that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters subsided.

(v. 1) PEA manatu ‘a e ‘Otua kia Noa, pea ki he ngaahi manu kaivao mo e ngaahi manu lalata na‘e ‘iate ia ‘i he ‘a‘ake: pea na‘e fakaangi ‘e he ‘Otua ha matangi ki he funga fonua, pea taumatala ai ‘a e vai;

*Commentary: The Reformation Bible*

God remembered Noah. The Hb. expression indicates action based on

a previous commitment (9:15; 19:29; 30:22; Ex. 2:24; 6:5; Luke 1:72, 73), not merely mental recall.

Pea manatu ‘a e ‘Otua kia Noa. ‘I he tuʻu faka-Hepelū ‘a e lea´ ni, ‘oku tefito ‘a e manatu´ ‘i he tukupā naʻe fai kimuʻa (9:15; 19:29; 30:22; Eki 2:24; Luke 1:72, 73), ‘o ‘ikai ko ha foʻi fakamanatu ‘i he ‘atamai´.

* study on the Attributes of God / ako ki he natula (ngaahi ‘ulungaanga) ‘o e ‘Otua *

GOD IS . . . (KO E ‘OTUA, ‘OKU . . )

Knowing God

Charles Spurgeon, in a sermon on the immutability of God, says,

The most excellent study for expanding the soul, is the science of Christ, and him crucified, and the knowledge of the Godhead in the glorious Trinity. Nothing will so enlarge the intellect, nothing so magnify the whole soul of man, as a devout, earnest, continued investigation of the great subject of the Deity.

‘I he taha ‘o e ngaahi malanga ‘a Salesi Sipeisone ‘i he tuʻunga taʻeliliu ‘o e ‘Otua´, naʻa ne pehee ai, Ko e ako lelei taha ki hono fao hotau laumālie´, ko e saenisi ‘o Kalaisi´ pea mo hono kalusefai´, pea mo e ‘ilo ki he ‘Otua´ ‘i he langilangi ‘o e Tolu-tahaʻi-ʻOtua´. ‘Oku ‘ikai mo ha toe meʻa te ne fakalahi ke maama ange hotau ‘atamai´, pea ‘oku ‘ikai mo ha toe meʻa te ne hiki ‘a e laumālie ‘o e tangata´, ‘o laka hake ‘i heʻete fakatotolo mo ako fakamātoato, mateaki moʻui ki he kaveinga fisifisimuʻa ‘o e ‘Otua´.

  1. The God head three in one. Father, son and Holy Spirit. A concept I must admit I had trouble wrapping my brain around.

    1. Welcome to the “comment” section, Tasi. “This” is why we are going through it - together - yes, our tiny brains do not have the capacity to totally grasp it - but it is so worth it to wrestle with the ideas and truths laid down for us! It “expands” the soul, as Spurgeon puts it. Lets continue along the path of learning and discovery. Malo e poupou mei hena. Pea malo e fakafofonga mai homou tuliki - toe uki mai he ‘oku mou tokolahi.

  2. God remember us - A Powerful Statement of Hope❣️

When I am stressed or at the end of my rope with myself, work, or life, this is a prayer I whisper in agonized silence as I sink into a pool of self pity and despair. . . . I have come to learn with time - that giving up is not the answer -

Instead asking God to remember me, (Or I tend to ask God to not forget me 💖💖💖) I am admitting to God that I have come to the end of me & I need Him to take action my behalf🙏🏻💕

Just as we see here when God remembered Noah he sent a wind to blow over the earth and the flood subsided.

When God remembers me through my silent and desperate pleas = I instantly feel His peace and comfort in my soul and I am able to move forward. Albeit a bit more cautiously but without the helplessness that I felt prior.

He promises He will always be with me. He will never forget me. (Aisea 49:15-16) Lord, May I never forget that in my journey of life❣️

  3. “God remembered noah” was a pretty cool thing to hear according to the commentary. and the knowing God section stood out to me , because it reminds me in order to truly get more well versed on Gods word and have a deeper relationship. it means i have to dive deeper and do investigations for myself and not just take words from others. i have to do things and learn things for myself

    1. Praise the Lord, Leti! Yes, we need to "put in work"! Malie - work well worth the effort - eternal rewards for temporal tasks.

  4. Majority of people are easily influenced today because they only read headlines and receive information from third sources instead of researching on their own. I'm quilty of doing so when it comes to knowing God. I do the minimum effort so I could check it off my my list.
Not only do I need put in work but work with purposeful intention. Which mean before I read devotion in the morning I need to be presence in mind and body.

    1. Malo Sila. He remains faithful, even when we aren’t. He remembers because of his own good pleasure. We worship and submit to him out of gratefulness for his grace 🙌🏽 malo Sisu.

  6. Hi everyone, I'd also want to share on this act of God's Grace in the story of Noah.
: God is Sovereign and He is Perfect in all His Ways. Whenever I waiver and start to be troubled at the circumstances of life. God reminds me through His Holy Spirit that He is GOD, there is none like Him. He knows everything from eternity past to eternity future. He is in control as the Sovereign ruler of the universe despite how worse our days have gotten and continue so, it does not change Him. Before the foundation of the world was formed God knew and ordained all to take place. Once He reminds me of Who He Is I feel His peace and freedom again.

Manatu as a human ability does not apply to God as He is not a created human being. He is omniscient/Holy Perfect infinite counsel and wisdom.
It's true as theologians often say that God speaks to us in a 'baby talk' form in the Scripture just so we can know His revealed knowledge of Himself. "The finite cannot contain the infinite... No human being can have a comprehensive knowledge of God." (R. C. Sproul). To us it's still a mystery. That's His business as Sproul would say.
This is because of His incomprehensible nature as we've learned.Nevertheless, this does not mean that we cannot know of God. With great certainty we do know God rightly as He revealed to us in the Bible. Our limited knowledge is bound by our humanity.

Yes I agree with the commentary that the verse does not mean that God forgot and now he remembers. To mean that He changed His mind or His statute or to refer to God as though He is of human nature to grow old and lost his thought collection. No is the answer to that. This verse though reveals the Perfect Will and Plan of God to save us from sin as He has said to Eve after the fall. His covenant which he has not forgotten. He didn't create the universe just to destroy it if He wants to but God designed all that come to pass in order and form for His Glory and Good Pleasure. His Will is Perfect, Complete and Holy and full of Life. There is no evil in Him. He has a plan for all including Noah and us all. His Son Jesus Christ fulfilled that plan and we have benefited from it eternally. There is none like Him. We are left in awe and astounded by His Wisdom and Holy Counsel. He is alone worthy to be praised. (Lisi)
