my charge, my commandments, my statutes. my laws. Abraham's obedience is described in terms that point to Israel's requirement to love God by being completely obedient to everything that He should require (Deut. 11:1 - “You shall therefore love the Lord your God and keep his charge, his statutes, his rules, and his commandments always”).

GOD IS . . . (KO E ‘OTUA, ‘OKU . . )
GOD IS TRIUNE
Doctrine...
Here Owen is defending what the Westminster Confession of Faith calls “a good and necessary consequence[s] ... deduced from Scripture”. In other words, the doctrine of the Trinity is good in that it is biblically sound and necessary in that it is essential to believe as part of the whole counsel of God revealed in Scripture. The content of the phrase "God is one essence in three persons" is infallibly and inescapably true because it is deduced from the written Word of God. That is, we believe not only the words of God but also the meaning of God's words to us.

Abraham loved God so much that it manifested in his complete obedience to God. As a result, Abraham's seed and descendants were and are blessed because it.
ReplyDeleteMay our love for God motivates us to obey His voice and keep His commandments, statutes and laws all the day of our lives.
Love and obedience go hand in hand and it shows in how many Christian behave. There are many who has the knowledge and the right word to say but their lifestyle do not coincide. We see those in many of our churches. When they attend church they are holier than thou by when they are out in the world their actions says otherwise. They behave so because they haven't truly loved God. How do we love and over God? In order to be obedient and love God we have to love his words. By reading and studying his words we receive the instruction of how to be obedient and not in words but through our actions.
ReplyDeleteIsaac obeyed God and did not go into Egypt. But he still fell into the same sin as his father by lying to Abimelech about his relationship to his wife. There is no Biblical basis for "generational curses" but the sins of the fathers will visit the sons because of the environment and nurturing in the same home. A warning to us dads to walk humbly before God and nurture a spirit of repentance before our families to head off any unnecessary heartaches later.
ReplyDeleteOur God of promise will keep His promises; but we must be diligent in "walking the walk" ourselves and applying His principles in our daily walk.
to me this is interesting bc you can relate it back to your own life very well. in my case love and obedience. or love and action. it stands out to me because love has to be something you wholeheartedly feel and not something you can say just to say it because your ACTION wont match what you proclaim. it also helps me to realize many things. i say i love my parents and my grandparents but if im not really listening and trying to do things that they say or trying to listen when they teach me, is that portraying love ? nahhh. so todays reminder is that love is an action word , that requires effort and not something to take lightly. love should not be overlooked as something rather simple. in order to love God wholeheartedly you need to be able to love the people that God has set forth in your life to teach and care for you. not be annoying and disobedient to them.
