Obeying the law of the land
SCRIPTURE
"In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register
Luke 2:1-3

OBSERVATION
I have been on road trips with my wife when she was pregnant, and they were not the easiest trips to take! I cannot imagine putting my wife on the back of a donkey when she's 9 months prego and expecting a fun trip on non-paved roads. The fact that Joseph and Mary both agreed to head back to their hometown simply to be counted for the census shows how dedicated they were to obeying the law of the land and authority placed in their lives.

APPLICATION
We may not always agree with the choices of those placed in power in politics, but it is important to remember that God allows them to hold the positions they do. Being obedient to the law can be cumbersome and inconvenient, but we should strive to honor laws that have been set.

PRAYER
God, I trust you and know that any leaders who hold power do so because you allow it. Give me the desire to be obedient to the law, even when it's inconvenient for me. Amen

Ko e hā ‘a e felāve‘i ‘a e fakaafe ki ha fakataha “baby shower” (paati teuaki ‘o e teu fa‘ele) pea mo e tohi kakai ‘o e talanoa ‘o e ‘aho ni? –
(What does a baby shower and a government census have in common in relation to this story?)

Ko e ha ‘a e hako tupu‘anga ‘o Sisu (famili) na‘e ‘uhinga ai ‘a e fononga ‘a Siosifa mo Mele ki he kolo na‘a na o ki ai?
(What family line is Jesus a part of that caused Mary & Joseph to travel?)
