SCRIPTURE
"Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. Speak
tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her that her hard service has been
completed, that her sin has been paid for, that she has received from the
LORD's hand double for all her sins. A voice of one calling: 'In the wilderness
prepare the way for the LORD; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.'"
Isaiah 40:1-3
OBSERVATION
Isaiah prophesies that the sins of Jerusalem will be
paid in full. Notice, however, how the prophet prefaces his statement by first
saying "speak tenderly to Jerusalem" Too many Christians force their
views and faith on others rather than "speaking tenderly" to others. Peter
later encourages the same concept for believers: "Always be prepared to
give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that
you have. But do this with gentleness and respect." 1 Peter 3:15
APPLICATION
The grace that Jesus offers provides comfort to those
who accept it. But remember to be gracious in delivering the good news with
those who do not already have faith in God.
PRAYER
God, use me to be a light and encouragement to those around
me-especially those who don't know you. Amen.
