Talangofua – tali angi mei he loto hounga‘ia
“Obedience - a loving response to His saving work”

Fehuʻi #7
Ko e hā ‘a e me‘a ‘oku tu‘utu‘uni ‘e he lao ‘a e ‘Otuá ?

(What does the law of God require?)

Ke tau talangofua kakato mo haohao ‘o fai ma‘u pe; ke tau ‘ofa ki he ‘Otuá ‘aki ‘a e kotoa hotau lotó , laumālié, ‘atamaí , mo e iví ; pea ke tau ‘ofa ki hotau kaungā‘apí  ‘o hangē ko kitautolú . Ko e me‘a ‘oku ne tapuí  ke tapu ma‘u pe hono faí , pea ko e me‘a ‘oku ne tu‘utu‘uni ke tau faí , ko e me‘a ia ke fai ma‘u pe.

(Personal, perfect and perpetual obedience; that we love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength; and love our neighbor as ourselves. What God forbids should never be done and what God commands should always be done.)

Mātiu 22:37-40
Pea ne pehē ki ai, Te ke ‘ofa ki he ‘Eiki ko ho ‘Otua, ‘o fai‘aki ‘a e kotoa ‘o ho loto, mo e kotoa ‘o ho laumālie, mo e kotoa ‘o ho ‘atamai. Ko eni ia ‘a e tu‘utu‘uni ‘oku mamafa taha mo tu‘ukimu‘a. Pea ‘oku fa‘ahinga mo ia ‘a hono ua, Te ke ‘ofa ki ho kaungā‘api ‘o hangē ko ho‘o ‘ofa kiate koe. Ko e ongo tu‘utu‘uni ko eni ‘e ua ‘oku tautau ki ai ‘a e Lao kotoa mo e Tohi Palōfita.

Matthew 22:37-40
Jesus said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

Tohi Vete Huani Sanisesi (faka‘osi)
Commentary – Juan Sanchez (conclusion)

Ko e ongoongo leleí, ‘i he kovinānite fo‘oú, ‘oku fakaivia ‘a e kakai ‘a e ‘Otuá  ke nau talangofua ki he lao ‘a e ‘Otuá. ‘Oku mahu‘inga ke tau mahino‘i, ‘oku ‘ikai lava ‘e he ngaahi tu‘utu‘uni mo e lao ‘a e ‘Otuá  ke fakahoko kitautolu ke ‘i ai ha‘atau fekau‘aki mo e ‘Otuá. Ko e talangofuá  ko ‘etau fakahounga‘i pe ia (tali angi) ‘a e ngaue ma‘ongo‘onga ‘a e ‘Otuá  ‘i hono fakamo‘ui kitautolú. Ko e tali angi loto ‘ofa ‘i he tui. Kuo fakamo‘ui kitautolu ‘e he ‘Otuá ‘ia Sisu Kalaisi, pea ‘oku tau tali angi (tali ui) kiate Ia ‘aki ‘etau talangofua mei he loto ‘ofa mo‘oni.

The good news is that under the new covenant, God’s people are empowered to obey God’s law. Once again, we see that the commands of God don’t establish a relationship with God. Obedience is our response to God’s saving work. It is a loving response of faith. God has saved us in Jesus Christ, and we respond by trusting him in loving obedience.

Lotu
‘E ‘Otua Foaki Lao, kuo ke folofola ‘i ho‘o lao haohaoá pea ‘oku taau ‘a ho‘o ‘afió  ke mau talangofua haohaoa ki ai. Tokoni mai ke ‘oua na‘a mau fakakaukau ko ho‘o laó  ke mau tauhi fakatu‘asino pe; ‘oku tuha ke tuku kakato ki ai homau lotó  ke mau mahino‘i pea fakamo‘oni ki ai homau ‘atamaí mo homau lotó . Pea ko hai ha taha te ne lava? ‘Oku mau vete atu, ‘oku mau kei tōnounou mo tō mama‘o mei hono tauhi ho‘o laó . ‘Emeni.
Prayer
Great Law-Giver, you have spoken a perfect law, and you deserve perfect obedience. Let us not merely think that your law requires outward submission; it demands the full assent of our minds and our hearts. Who is equal to such a task? We confess that we fall far short of keeping your law. Amen.
