‘Oku tu‘u ‘eku manakó ‘i he‘ene laó
“I delight in His law”

Fehu‘i #6
‘E founga fēfē ha‘atau fakalangilangi‘i ‘a e ‘Otuá ?

(How can we glorify God?)

‘Oku tau fakalangilangi‘i ‘a e ‘Otuá ‘aki ‘a e tu‘u mo‘oni ‘etau manakó ‘iate Ia, ‘ofa kiate Ia , falala kiate Ia, mo talangofua ki hono finangaló, mo ‘ene ngaahi tu‘utu‘uní , mo ‘ene laó́ .

(We glorify God by enjoying him, loving him, trusting him, and by obeying his will, commands, and law.)

Teutalonome 11:1
Ko ia te ke ‘ofa kia Sihova ko ho ‘Otua, ‘o tauhi hono fatongia, mo hono ngaahi lao, mo ‘ene konisitūtone, mo ‘ene ngaahi tu‘utu‘uni, ma‘u ai pē.

Deuteronomy 11:1
You shall therefore love the Lord your God and keep his charge, his statutes, his rules, and his commandments always.

Pea ‘i he‘eku fai peheé, (hanga ‘i he ‘ofa ki he ‘Otuá ), ‘oku ‘ikai leva te u kei fakalangilangi‘i pe ‘a e ‘Otuá, koe‘uhí ko ha‘ate manavahē na‘a hoko ha me‘a kiate kita. He ka pehē, te u talangofua pe ka ‘e ‘ikai tu‘u ai ‘eku manakó. ‘Ikai, ko e ‘ofa mo‘oni ki he ‘Otuá  ko ‘eku manako ‘i he‘ene laó. ‘Oku mahino kiate au ‘a ‘ene fakaafe kiate au, ke u “ ‘a‘eva mo iá ” ko ha hala lelei mo malu. Ko e tu‘unga totonu ia ‘o e ngaahi tu‘utu‘uni ‘a e ‘Otuá . ‘Oku nau fakamatala‘i mai, ‘o fou ‘i he ngaahi tala fekau‘aki mo hono ngaahi ‘ulungaanga mo e tokanga mai ‘a e ‘Otuá , felāve‘i mo e hala ko eni ki he mo‘uí .

Kapau te ke afe mei he halá , ‘oku ‘i ai hono ngaahi nunu‘a, he ko e ‘alunga eni ia ‘oku lelei mo malu. Pea tala‘ehaí ‘oku tau nofo ma‘u ‘i he halá  (pe ‘alunga ko ení) ko ha‘a tau feinga ke tohoaki mai ‘a e tokanga pe ‘ofa ‘a e ‘Otua. Ka koe‘uhí, ‘oku mahino kiate kitautolu, ‘i he‘ene fakahā mai ‘ia Kalaisí , ‘o fakae‘ee‘a ‘i he feilaulau ‘a e ‘Aló ma‘a kitautolú , ‘a e lahi faufau ‘a ‘ene ‘ofa kiate kitautolu.

As I do that, (respond with a heart of love), I’m not now honoring God with a sense of “Oh no, he’s going to get me if I don’t”. That would mean I might obey him, but I would not enjoy him. No, true love for God means I delight in his law. I understand that what God has given me when he says, “walk with me,” is a safe and good path in life. That’s really what the commandments of God are about. They are explaining, as he shows as his character and care, that he’s given us this safe path for life. If you get off the path, there are consequences, of course, because this is a safe and good path. But we are not staying on that path because we think somehow we are earning his affection. Rather, we understand, as he showed us through Christ and particularly the Lord’s sacrifice for us, how great is his love for us.
