The scepter shall not depart from Judah
Ko e sēpita meia Siuta ‘e ‘ikai ‘ave
(v. 10) The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until tribute comes to him; and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.
(v. 10) Ko e sēpita meia Siuta ‘e ‘ikai ‘ave, Mo e tokotoko mei hono vaha‘a va‘e, Kae‘oua ke ha‘u ‘a Sailo, Pea ‘e fai kiate ia ‘e he ngaahi kakai ‘enau tukulolo.
*Commentary: David Guzik Study notes on Genesis*
Each of these refer to the ruling position Judah will have among his brethren. He inherited the leadership aspect of the firstborn’s inheritance. This leadership position among his brothers meant that the eventual kings of Israel would come from Judah and that the Messiah – God’s ultimate leader – would eventually come from the tribe of Judah.
In Revelation 5:5, Jesus is called the Lion of the tribe of Judah.
“The firstborn normally had two rights. First, he became the leader of the family, the new patriarch. Second, he was entitled to a double share of the inheritance, receiving twice as much as any of the other brothers.” (Boice)

GOD IS . . . (KO E ‘OTUA, ‘OKU . . )
2 GOD IS SIMPLE
Doctrine
Or as Irenaeus observes,
He is a simple, uncompounded Being, without diverse members, and altogether like, and equal to himself, since He is wholly understanding, and wholly spirit, and wholly thought, and wholly intelligence, and wholly reason, and wholly hearing, and wholly seeing, and wholly light, and the whole source of all that is good.

This mornings verse speaks about the blessings and curse of the 12 sons of Jacob. I’ve realized that being the oldest doesn’t mean you’ll get the blessings because depending on what you do and how you act you could also be cursed. I’m one of the oldest in my family and I’ve been blessed to say that I don’t feel cursed lol maybe down the line if I deviate from the path God has set forth for me, but I’ll enjoy the blessings for as long as I can. 🤟🏼💯
ReplyDeleteBlessed indeed! ('Efeso 1:3)
DeleteToday’s verse talked about the blessings and the curses that were given to Jacob’s 12 sons. They all were blessed or cursed based upon their actions. In other words God knows what we need when we need it. Its true when they say if you stay faithful to God he will stay faithful to you. Ofas from AZ!
ReplyDeleteThank you Vai for sharing. Very true.
DeleteThere is always a lesson deeper than what we see on the surface - the blessings & curses reflected actions by the sons (most notably the 1st 3 sons and their reprehensible deeds) but as a matter of mercy, God chose Judah in spite of his actions with regard to Tamar (not excused, but was allowed to have us see the depths of God's love) but God redeemed him when he repented. The Kingly line will come from Judah (the Lion) while Joseph modelled and typified Christ to his family and to us.
Please keep coming back to share and tell your brothers & sisters to join in. 'Ofa atu
