KO AU KO AU AI PĒ
(v. 13-14) 13 Then Moses said to God, “If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to them?” 14 God said to Moses, “I am who I am.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘I am has sent me to you.’”

*Commentary: David Guzik Study notes on Genesis*
Rightfully, Moses sensed he needed credentials before the people of Israel. Before, he thought he had the credentials because he was a prince of Egypt. 40 years of tending sheep took away his sense of self-reliance.
When God revealed Himself to man in the days of the patriarchs it was often associated with a newly revealed name or title for God.
· Abraham,
in the encounter with Melchizedek called on God Most High (Genesis 14:22)
· Abraham
later encountered Almighty God
(Genesis 17:1)
· Abraham
came to know the Lord as Everlasting
God (Genesis 21:33), and The-Lord-Will-Provide
(Genesis 22:14)
· Hagar
encountered You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees
(Genesis 16:13)
· Jacob
met El Elohe Israel (Genesis 33:20)
and El Bethel (Genesis 35:7).
Yahweh was not a new name, nor an unknown name – it appears more than 160 times in the book of Genesis. Moses’ mother’s name was Jochabed meaning Yahweh is my glory. Moses and Israel knew the name Yahweh. God did not give Moses a previously unknown name of God, but the name they had known before. God called them back to the faith of the patriarchs, not to something “new.”
In the English-speaking world, for a time people pronounced Yahweh as Jehovah. The pious Jews of later years did not want to pronounce the name of God out of reverence, so they left the vowels out of His name and simply said the word Lord (adonai) instead. If the vowels of the word adonai are put over the consonants for YHWH, you can get the name “Jehovah.” All this came about much later; in the days of the Bible, the name was pronounced Yah-weh or Yah-veh.

2 GOD IS SIMPLE
Doctrine
God's Simplicity Revealed in Christ's Death
In Christ, all of God's attributes are manifested and glorified. Natural theology may give a person a dim knowledge of God's attributes, but in Christ, these attributes "sparkle” because they are revealed in redemption. Some even call Christ the "stage" on which God displays his attributes in their harmony for the world to witness. There is a profound sense in which the gospel reveals God in a way the law never could.

ReplyDeleteAnd God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”
So many times in life, different situations and circumstances have caused us to question God in our lives. It could have been health issues, financial struggles, career downfall, family or relationship problems or whatever we can think of. Often in time, we find ourselves questioning God and His promises. But today, God is speaking to us directly, reminding us of who HE IS! Ko KOAU, KOAU AIPE. I AM WHO I AM. God is trying to remind us, He is the same yesterday, today and forever. The same God that promises Abraham the promised land, is the same God that sees and hears the cry of His people. The same God that got us to where we are, is the same God that will deliver us from where we are and take us to where He wants us to be. Where He sees best for us. God can have different names/titles (Jehovah Jireh, Jehova Nisi .etc) but He is the same God. His nature is still the same. His love, mercy, grace and faithfulness never change. Thank you Lord for constantly reminding us of who you are. Help us to be confident in you! Thank for who you are to us and for who we are in you. In Jesus' name. Amen 🙏🏽
Good Morning from AZ its a beautiful morning what a blessing 😊and here we are at chapter 3 of Exodus I name this chapter is the chapter of God calling Moses, Moses was born for a purpose, so I believed everyone born to this world has a purpose but you gotta listen carefully what is your calling to fulfill your purpose on earth 🤔 calling from God name I AM WHO I AM not just any calling 😉anyway continue on When God ready for Moses to fulfill His calling Moses start asking question, why me Lord why don’t you call somebody else I just came back from Egypt I don’t wanna go back there and face to face with Pharaoh. Plus if they ask who sent me? what my answer gonna be? I just imagined that me answering back to God. That who we are, how we are, always have excuses. Koe tapuaki oe aho ni, koe Otua fonu he ofa moe kelesi, vave ke fai meesi mo faa fakamolemole he oku ne osi afioi pe hotau anga fakaetangata. ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing God we serve.
ReplyDeleteGrowing up with the Word of God and having home Bible studies with my Dad, he has constantly mentioned that the God we serve has multiple names. I’m sure we can come up with a few on our own, and that just amazes me to know that my God has many names and they are all precious one after the other! Getting confirmation on who we serve is something we should be asking ourselves daily to remind us that Our God is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords and that no one is greater than He Is!
I wanna wish my brother Peni Taukafa a very happy birthday and I give praises to the Lord almighty for blessing you with this message today. Ofa atu
Amen
