She named him
Moses, “Because…I drew him out of the water.”
Na‘a ne fakahingoa
ia ko Mōsese…“He na‘a ku toho mai ia mei he vai”
‘Ekisoto 2 (Exodus 2)
(v. 10) When the child grew older, she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses, “Because,” she said, “I drew him out of the water.”
(v. 10) Pea ‘i he‘ene tupu ‘a e tamasi‘i, na‘a ne ‘ave ia ki he ‘Ōfefine ‘o Felo, pea na‘a ne tama ‘aki ia. Pea na‘a ne fakahingoa ia ko Mōsese (ko Toho-mai) he‘ene pehē, He na‘a ku toho mai ia mei he vai.
*Commentary: Matthew Henry*
Moses named. The Jews tell us that his father, at his circumcision, called him Joachim, but Pharaoh's daughter called him Moses, Drawn out of the water, so it signifies in the Egyptian language. The calling of the Jewish lawgiver by an Egyptian name is a happy omen to the Gentile world, and gives hopes of that day when it shall be said, Blessed be Egypt my people, Isa. 19:25. And his tuition at court was an earnest of the performance of that promise, Isa. 49:23, Kings shall be thy nursing fathers, and queens thy nursing mothers.

God's Simplicity
Revealed in Christ's Death
Christ reveals God to both men and angels. The angels receive their knowledge of God through the Son of God, who created them. Indeed, when the angels witnessed Christ's crucifixion on the cross, where the Father deserted him, they learned more about God and his attributes than in all the previous actions he had performed. As Thomas Boston declares,
Again, the glory of one attribute is more seen in one work than in another: in some things there is more of His goodness, in other things more of His wisdom is seen, and in others more of His power. But in the work of redemption all His perfections and excellencies shine forth in their greatest glory.

ReplyDeleteExodus 2:23-25
ReplyDelete23 Now it happened in the process of time that the king of Egypt died. Then the children of Israel groaned because of the bondage, and they cried out; and their cry came up to God because of the bondage. 24 So God heard their groaning, and God remembered His covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. 25 And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God acknowledged them.
Thank you Lord for hearing our cry and remembering us!
“Now a man from the house of Levi...”
ReplyDeleteThis man would be Moses’ father. I always have fun asking people; “who was Moses’ father?” (His name) Do you know? Without Google?
Even I don't know that. Lol. I'm blaming it on old age. Hahaha
DeleteTasi, I’m sure you’ve looked it up by now... Amram (‘Amilami) We will see a genealogy in Chap 6. I think because his name is not given in this chapter with the birth of Moses, we tend to overlook it.
Delete‘Ofa’s uncle Va’enuku gave a Bible Study and asked this question - I remembered it from that point on. 😀
The story of baby Moses reminds me that God can bring good things out of evil/bad situations, misfortunes into blessings as long as we stay faithful to him. It doesn't matter what difficulties you and I go through in life, by knowing God's got our back there will always be light at the end of the tunnel.
ReplyDeleteMoses was saved by Pharaohs daughter and raised by his parents until today when he was brought back to be raised in the palace. We may question God on why he puts us through hard time but knowing Moses story he eventually became a tool that God use to save his people and brought out of slavery.
God has great purpose in life for us. He wants to strengthen us through the valley so that we could endure and becoming victorious at the park.

Deletein all honestly the biggest thing i get from this story of moses is greatness isnt circumstantial. i think his story proves it the most. i learn that in this world alot of ppl say im in a bad situation im never gonna be good , im never gonna succeed. i hear it alot as a highschool teen. everyone talks about how their circumstances dont allow them to be great and keep them in a mediocre state, even me i do that sometimes. but reading this story proves the point that anything bad can be good and vice versa , it depends how u look at it. i think its a good lesson to never be content and strive to be better. it also reminds me that God can literally do anything he wants. he can make you be the most successful person even if youve been homeless for 20 years. you get the point. God can flip flop your life without batting an eye. and that truly is powerful to think that God is all powerful and is always there for me. it also taught me another valuable lesson to show kindness to everyone like the daughter did. even if different race , different gender etc. i think its important to be that light bc you never know what that person is going through
