It is not in me
‘Oku ‘ikai ko au
(v. 16) So Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, “It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace.”
(v. 16) Pea tali ‘e Siosifa kia Felo, ‘o pehē, ‘Oku ‘ikai ko au: ko e ‘Otua pē te ne ‘omi ha me‘a ke tu‘umālie ai ‘a e ‘Afiona.
*Commentary: David Guzik Study notes on Genesis*
Pharaoh gave Joseph a golden opportunity to glorify himself, but Joseph refused. He did not use this as an opportunity to glorify himself before Pharaoh, but only to glorify God.
Joseph seems much wiser and perhaps more humble than he did before, considering the way he told his brothers his previous dreams in a self-glorying way.
God’s work of character building was being accomplished in Joseph even when he perhaps thought nothing was happening.

We also commune with the Spirit as he comforts, or helps, us: "And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever" (John 14:16). This verse carries a clearly Trinitarian accent: the Son asks the Father for the Spirit (i.e., the Helper) to be with his people.

I can only imagine if I was given the opportunity to stand before a king and interpret his dream! God definitely worked through Joseph in this specific incident which was what Joseph was destined for. The thing that always gets me about this story is the baker that FORGOT about Joseph after he was returned to his job within the palace. It shows that God has a plan for our lives, and whether we think our life is gonna then our a certain way, God will always have a greater plan for us down the road. Joseph didn’t have to show off because God showed up in his favor, and that’s what I want in my life. I will be honored to show up for God whenever He needs me!!! He blesses my life with the riches of family love, home, friends and people that care about my well-being...Thanks for a great message today & stay blessed always!!! #ShowUpForGod💯🤟🏼🙏🏼
ReplyDeleteMalie Peteli. I can totally see you standing before all those people in the airport and declaring the goodness of God. 😀🙏🏽
DeleteJoseph chose to use his “15 minutes of fame” to shine the light back to God. He could have pleaded or bargain with Pharaoh for his release and maybe asked for reparation. But he didn’t. He, instead, declared the sovereignty and supremacy of God over the powers and wisdom of Egypt! He risked his life to “testify” for his God - the One True God! And in the end, he fulfilled the need of a nation - and the leader of the nation laid the nation at his feet - 2nd in command! The prisoner is now governor! The abandoned is now exalted. God is faithful! God rules!!

ReplyDelete“It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace.”
This rings true in today's society. We as a people spend most of our time chasing riches and glory and also put our trust and hope in others thinking we will receive the peace but we know it ain't so. Those who have the least are often the most peaceful. In God only, we can achieve true peace.

God’s work of character building was being accomplished in Joseph even when he perhaps thought nothing was happening...man.. That's the one right there..... Frame it, hang it.
A Chinese bamboo has to be water everyday for 5 years or it'll die. In those 5 years there is no growth, but in the 5th year it'll shoot up to 90 feet.
Don't falter in doing what is right and in our walk with God. It might only be a seed now but if we keep watering, it'll sprout and grow into a beautiful tree.
Chinese bamboo? Wow! Lahi pe ho’o sio he Kung Fu Panda 🐼 😅 but really... tried by fire - languished in a dark dungeon for years - only to be resurrected to life and declare the glory of God to a pagan nation! And they were all ears! Nothing in their system and worldview could explain what was coming! God laid the foundation and set everything in motion - his main character was being prepared in obscurity to finally be thrusted in the limelight! “Showtime!” Soli Deo Gloria!🙌🏽🙏🏽

DeleteThank you for your constant sharing in our blog. You and Peteli are my blog heroes 😀👍🏽 don’t stop encouraging the young adults out there. The Word is our food - our sustenance - our light - our everything!
dont believe peni he saw the cartoons on his own accord not with meee :) weh. anywayss i learned many things from this passage. i think the first thing is being content yet striving for more. what i mean is not being angered by a bad situation but looking at the positive while moving forward. second off , joseph is crazyyyyy brave man. to be able to stand up to a king and easily interpret his dreams without batting an eye is nuts , and it truly shows his trust in God. in verse 16 he basically mic dropped it too. He knew before he even interpreted it that God had him and it showed faith. it also leads me to my third point , he wasn’t necessarily a kid bc he was mid 30s but still he was basically super young yet he led all of egypt. he basically even had the pharaoh listening to him. pharaoh basically said im still pharaoh but no one will movd a foot unless you say so. and i find it crazy just how much authority he had. so it goes to show that the limitations set on ages are set by human standards and not Gods bc obviously anything can happen if you have him on your side. we can do anything we want and put our minds to with Gods help. i also think joseph as a person matured very well into that role. going from being cocky per-say sbout his dream with his brothers to being able to say “this is from God not me” is just a huge jump.
ReplyDeleteMalie Leti (cartoon dispute aside 😅)
DeleteSignificant people in their 30’s.
Joseph was 30 when he stood before Pharaoh.
David was 30 when he became King.
Jesus was 30 when he began his ministry.
Whether you’re 13, 30 or older - God will always prepare you for the task at hand!
Malo Leti for standing firm in your surroundings.
Great chapter today! 😀Here’s my takeaways:
ReplyDelete1. Joseph has arrived at his predestined calling. V.14 He is called before the pharaoh and out of prison he comes - Shedding his prison garb He changes before appearing before pharaoh never imagining how his life would dramatically be altered forever. . From a despised brother, enduring many trails in his youth to being forgotten in jail - many years later. . . It is now his Time. Making Lamentations 3:26 so relevant “It is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord and what a save it was!
2. V.16 - Joseph Credits the Maker for the Interpretation! 🙌 No one else holds this type of POWER and no one else can bring PEACE through knowing. Philippians 4:7 - a peace that transcends understanding..Thru God alone.
3. V25 & v28. . God has revealed to Pharaoh in advance what He is about to do. 2X!! The power of 2’s! It is also mentioned in v32 that because the dream was revealed twice - they not only came from God but will happen soon. . . As this is a “recurring” event it is impt to note in our own lives that when things happen on repeat or in dual incidents we must take Heed. God may be speaking to us in said event and He requires an action on our behalf. Esp in these times we are living in - it’s a good reminder to pay attention to what we ‘encounter’ consciously and subconsciously - an impt reminder. Let us not walk through life with blinders on or in blissful ignorance: Mark 13:33 “Take heed, keep on the alert; for you do not know when the appointed time will come.” Time is short -pay attention✅
4. V. 39-52: God Blesses Joseph because of His Faithfulness - Egypt and the surrounding countries benefitted as well. . . What a wonderful YOUTH example for our young adults and teens today. . . In a world that heavily focuses on self indulgence and indignant self entitlement - it is refreshing for Joseph to remind us through His Character the lost art of endurance, tenacity, and resiliency through His crazy formidable teen years. . . Pharaoh was smart and quick to “cash in” on the ‘Potential’ presented by such a young man. In turn, The blessing from God as we see in today’s chapter was immeasurable!!🙌🙏🏻💕 it could not be quantified - so they stopped trying to measure it and just continue to collect it. . . Oh so that it may be for each of us as well❣️That we may learn from this Young Man of Favour and apply what we learn to our own walk of Faith. ❤️As Luke 6:38 reminds us: Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” . . . Sow in patience, humility, and faithful perseverance and Reap in Blessings Overflowing! Ke tokoni mai ‘a e ‘Eiki💕
Hallelujah to our Providential Triune God forever 🙌🏽 The enduring story we read and we re-tell for generations still has much to offer the seeker. 🙏🏽
DeleteJoseph characters: mo'ui fkakiakimui, fktokilalo.
ReplyDeleteFrom the verse itself, it shows how smart and wise Joseph is. He was given an opportunity to be fame but instead he let that go and let the owner, his boss, his leader, take the credit/glory because it belongs to him.
By looking at the verse, that is what now a days mostly seek for is to be known ( ke fkhikihikii, talanoa'i, tuku hake'i he kakai, iloa etc). What a great opportunity. Joseph could've chose that time to be known and forget everything or everyone because this is his opportunity to shine, BUT he didn't. He gave it all back to the Father. Hallelujah! How amazing is that. Give back the glory and honor to the one who it belongs to.
Sometimes we are Joseph, who are/were given opportunities in life to shine. And as humans, we think to ourselves maybe we should take the opportunity because we might not get the same offer in the future. But today's verse, Joseph has reminded us that no matter how wise, smart, status, position (ma'olunga pe ma'u lalo) or given an opportunity to shine make sure not to look for our own glory but to.give the glory back to God.
Keu hoko ko ha Siosifa o mo'ui fakaakiaki mui mo fakatokilalo.ke oua na'a ngalo keu fakafoki ae lagilagi moe kololoa kihe Eiki. Ka iai ha faigamalie keu 'iloa ai ke oua na'a ngalo ae Eiki. Keu faka'a'au ma'u pe ki mui Kae kimu'a ae Eiki.

DeleteJoseph could’ve just took all the credit for his gift, being in his situation which could’ve turned his life around but he didn’t, he pointed back to God and God honored his faithfulness. Often times its easy to get my head puffed up by my talents and sometimes even forget who gave me these talents. a reminder that it is not I but God in me.
