God who has been my shepherd all my life long
ko e ‘Otua kuo ne tauhi au talu ‘eku ‘i ai
(v. 15-16) 15 And he blessed Joseph and said, “The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has been my shepherd all my life long to this day, 16 the angel who has redeemed me from all evil, bless the boys; and in them let my name be carried on, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.”
(v. 15-16) 15 Pea na‘a ne tāpuaki‘i ‘a Siosifa, ‘o ne pehē, Ko e ‘Otua, ‘a ia na‘e taka ‘i hono ‘ao ‘a ‘eku mātu‘a ko ‘Epalahame mo ‘Aisake; ko e ‘Otua kuo ne tauhi au talu ‘eku ‘i ai, ‘o a‘u ki he ‘aho ni; 16 ko e ‘Āngelo kuo ne huhu‘i au mei he kovi kotoa pē, ‘ofa ke ne tāpuaki‘i ‘a e ongo tama ni; pea ke ui‘aki ‘a kinaua hoku hingoa, mo e hingoa ‘o ‘eku mātu‘a ko ‘Epalahame mo ‘Aisake: pea ke na tupu hangē ko e ika, ‘o opeope ‘i he fonua.
*Commentary: David Guzik Study notes on Genesis*
And he blessed Joseph: Israel gave the same blessing to both sons, but the son of the right hand received a greater proportion of the blessing.
This was fulfilled in Israel’s history. Both tribes were blessed, but Ephraim was greater as a tribe, even to the point where the name Ephraim was used to refer to the whole northern nation of Israel (see examples in Isaiah 7:8, 7:17, and 11:13).
The phrase, “the God who has fed me” is literally “The God who has shepherded me.” This is the first mention in the Bible of God as a shepherd to His people.

GOD IS . . . (KO E ‘OTUA, ‘OKU . . )
2 GOD IS SIMPLE
Doctrine
Augustine asserts that every attribute is identical with God's essence and to that extent with every other attribute as well:
For God to be is the same as to be strong or to be just or to be wise, and to be whatever else you may say of that simple multiplicity or that multiple simplicity, whereby his substance is signified.... That which is justice is also itself goodness, and that which is goodness is also itself blessedness.
2 KO E ‘OTUA´, ‘OKU LAULOTAHA
Tokāteline
Naʻe pehē ‘e ‘Aokositaine, ko e ngaahi ‘ulungaanga kotoa pe ‘o e ‘Otua´ ‘oku nau tuʻunga tatau mo e uho ‘o e ‘Otua´, pea ‘oku pehē kotoa ‘enau felālāveʻi´:
He ko e ‘i ai ‘a e ‘Otua´, ‘oku tatau pe ia mo ‘etau
pehē ‘oku mafimafi, pe fai totonu, pe poto, pe ko ha meʻa pe te tau lau kau ki
he laulōtaha ‘o ha ngaahi meʻa lahi, pe lahi ‘o ha laulōtaha, ‘a ē ‘oku tau lau
ki ai ‘a hono natula´...ko e meʻa ko ē ‘oku totonu´, ‘oku toe lelei pe mo ia,
pea ko e meʻa ‘oku lelei´, ‘oku fonu tāpuaki foki mo ia.
God Got Us 💯
ReplyDeleteIn verse 11 Jacob tells Joseph that he never expected to see him again. But God has allowed him not only to see him (Joseph) again, but also his grandchildren. This reminds me that no matter how bad life is right now, God is still good and he is still in control. We may not be able to see what lies ahead, but if we just put our faith and trust in him, we have nothing to worry about.
ReplyDeleteNote the 3-fold reference to God: v. 15-16
ReplyDelete1). The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked
2). The God who has been my shepherd all my life long to this day
3). The Angel who has redeemed me from all evil,
May be a reference signaling the Trinity later...
honestly speaking this was a very interesting chapter , bc “israel” was purely led by God. i think its crazy how the first born is always somehow the lesser one when it comes to the bible. the curse of the firstborn , esau and the birithright , God sending an angel to kill the first borns. i think its just interesting to see that about the firstborns. also not to say that the firstborn here was put lesser or had a bad outcome but “israel” made the younger one a great nation then the firstborn which is intersting. it also shows fhsfhe never expected to see them again and was although failing in eyesight and all that stuff he still had the power to bless them immensely due to Gods power. i think its important for me to remember that no matter what im doing , how old i get , how sick i get , i can be a vessel for Gods will. and it always is crazy to me how he uses a variety of different ppl with different backgrounds to do his work, it just displays his power. to me that is crazy
ReplyDeleteI thought my comment posted after Leti apparently it did not lol. So here it is!!
ReplyDeleteToday’s story is a sobering reminder for us all. What we may see as the natural order of things whether sequentially or in order of seniority or consecutive hierarchical order amounts to nothing but a smoke screen to God’s plans and divine purpose for our lives. It brings to mind verses like *Matthew 20:16 So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen. . . Each and every time a person expected a different outcome from what actually happened it made that person upset that the outcome differed from their expectations. A humbling reminder for us all to remember who is truly in charge - Proverbs reminds us - We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps (Proverbs 16:9) we may want to claim rights because we are the eldest in the family or ranked highest GPA for school or have gained seniority in the workforce - but the decision of blessings in our achievement and social of familial status may not be given according to our expectations. We must learn to manage that in a way that we do not lose our faith and understanding that God has a plan in all of this for our ultimate good! And if and when this happens that we are quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to get angry.(James 1:19). There is blessing and teaching in His word for us always. 🙏🏻❣️
