I will not let You go unless You bless me

‘E ‘ikai te u tukuange koe, kae‘oua ke ke tāpuaki au.

Senesi 32 (Genesis 32)

(v. 26) And He said, “Let Me go, for the day breaks.”

But he said, “I will not let You go unless You bless me!”

(v. 26) Pea ne folofola, Tuku ange au ke u ‘alu, he ‘oku ‘alu hake ‘a e pongipongi. Pea ne tali, ‘E ‘ikai te u tukuange koe, kae‘oua ke ke tāpuaki au.

*Commentary: Matthew Poole*

And he said, Let me go: he saith this, partly to show the prevailing power of his prayer with God, and partly to quicken and encourage Jacob to persist in his conflict. Compare Exod. 32: 10; Deut. 9: 14. The day breaketh, and I am not willing that there should be any spectators or witnesses of these things. Except thou bless me with the blessings which thou hast promised to Abraham and to me, among which one is protection in this hour of my danger. For Jacob now began to think that it was no man, nor ordinary angel, that was with him, but God himself, as he saith, ver. 30.

*Tohi Vete: Matiu Pulu*

Tuku ange au ke u ‘alu. Naʻa ne foaki ‘a e lea´ ni ke fakahaaʻi ‘a e malohi ‘o ‘ene lotu´ mo fakaʻaiʻai ia ke tutui atu ‘i he fepaki´. Pea kuo kamata ke fakakaukau ‘a Sekope ‘oku ‘ikai ko ha tangata eni, pe ko ha ‘angelo anga maheni, ka kiate ia, ko e ‘Otua´ tonu eni (v.30).

GOD IS . . . (KO E ‘OTUA, ‘OKU . . )

GOD IS TRIUNE

In Christ

Similarly, Paul brings out the Trinitarian focus of salvation in the first chapter of Ephesians. The works of God toward us are grounded in the Father's eternal love toward us in Christ, in which he elects us (Eph. 1:3-6). The Son becomes incarnate, and we are saved by his work for us in our stead (v. 7). And the Holy Spirit applies the work of Christ to us, endowing us with all spiritual blessings in Christ (vv. 13-14).

Ko e ‘Otua´ ko e Tolu-ʻi he-Taha

‘I he founga tatau, ‘oku ‘omi ‘e Paula ‘a e fengaueʻaki ‘a e Tolu-tahaʻi-‘Otua´ ‘i he ngaue ‘o e fakamoʻui´ ‘i he vahe ‘uluaki ‘o e tohi ki ‘Efesō. Hoko ‘a e ‘Alo´ ‘o kakano, pea tau moʻui fou ‘i heʻene ngaue´, ‘a ē naʻa´ ne fetongi tuʻunga ai mo kitautolu´ (v.7). Pea ‘omi ‘e he Laumālie Maʻoniʻoni´ ‘a e ngaue ko ia´ ‘o fakateungaʻaki kitautolu, pea ne toe fakafonu kitautolu ‘aki ‘a e ngaahi tapuaki fakalaumālie ‘ia Kalaisi (v. 13-14).

  1. Genesis 32:30 So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: “For I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.”

Thank you Lord for preserving our lives. We do not deserve your mercy and grace but your love reached out and saved us. Malo Sisu 🙏🏽

Shift our focus to you.. bend self out of its own self-glory which is vain glory! 2. In times of fear and adversity there is nothing better than falling to our knees & seeking God our Helper & Hope. When Jacob realised that his brother Esau is coming toward him with 400 men he was terrified for the lives of all the people that was with him as well as his. Then Jacob prayed. He didn’t go seek advices or opinions from his wives & the people around him but he went & seek God. Pouring all his fears & worries to God yet reassuring God that he’s holding onto the promises He had promised him. What a blessing it is to know that there’s hope in our times of troubles & that we are not alone & helpless in this fallen world. We have His promises in His word & we are to pray & seek Him for his guidance in our lives. He promised that he’ll be with us always to the ends of the earth. In times of troubles nothing is better than falling to our knees in prayer & holding tightly to His promises.

Pray for your family & friends who have yet to find Jesus our Saviour & the only Hope in this life. 🙏

    1. Praise God! Even in our state of fear and weakness - he is gracious. He extends mercy. And there is always refuge and shelter under the wings of the Almighty. Let us do what is commanded of us - to seek Him in prayer. To commune with the triune God. He answers through His Word. And we take our marching orders from Him and cling to His promises as we move out in faith.

  3. Our life on Earth is filled with struggles where our life is in constant struggle a "wrestling" between good and bad, God and Satan for our soul. Everyday we are given a choice to choose between being blessed or not. The question then is do I want to be blessed? The answer is yes. Who doesn't want to be blessed. The true test is not only acknowledging through empty words but acknowledging through our actions that we choose to blessed. We know through his grace we are blessed but also he is a God who doesn't tolerate sin. So choose today to be blessed show him your are wanting his blessings through obedience to his words and followed through with your actions. Don't loose our blessings today in our sinful acting and choices.

    1. Malo Peni. Malo e fakafofonga mei Maui. The struggle is real - but to enter into the presence of God and “wrestle” with ourselves - our flesh - is what Paul talks about when he said “I knock myself out (I punch myself) to submit my “self” to His higher plans and to move according to His purpose for my life, so I will not be “disqualified” from his service due to an “undisciplined life. 🙏🏽

  4. In v.30 it says So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, “it is because I saw God face to face, yet my life was spared.” There’s times in life where we think we can get away with things but forget Gods watching us at all times. We do the things we want to do and don’t realize that we’re still well and alive today because we have a Merciful God! One day we’ll meet God face to face also and that’s judgement day. Reading the story full story talks about Jacob getting ready to meet with Esau. While he’s preparing to meet him instead of seeking help from others he turned to God. We usually depend on getting advice from another person when we should put more of our confidence in the Lord more then man. As a youth we face a lot of challenges in life where we battle hard choices in life. But Jacob reminds us that we can’t do things on our own. He told God he wouldn’t let go unless he blesses him. That’s the type of spiritual relationship we need with the Lord instead of relying on others or ourselves. God wants us to be blessed but it takes us to step up and want the blessing too.
