For your servant became a pledge of safety

Kae‘uma‘ā na‘e hoko ho‘o tamaio‘eiki ko au ko e talifaki

Senesi 44 (Genesis 44)

(v. 32) For your servant became a pledge of safety for the boy to my father, saying, ‘If I do not bring him back to you, then I shall bear the blame before my father all my life.’

(v. 32) Kae‘uma‘ā na‘e hoko ho‘o tamaio‘eiki ko au ko e talifaki ki he tama ki he‘eku ‘eiki, ‘o u pehē, Kapau ‘e ‘ikai te u ‘omi ia kiate koe, pea te u hia ki he‘eku tamai ‘o ta‘engata.

*Commentary: David Guzik Study notes on Genesis*

Judah’s impassioned appeal to Joseph is a model of a heartfelt, desperate appeal.

Of Judah’s speech, F.B. Meyer wrote: “In all literature, there is nothing more pathetic than this appeal.” H.C. Leupold wrote, “This is one of the manliest, most straightforward speeches ever delivered by any man. For depth of feeling and sincerity of purpose it stands unexcelled.” Barnhouse called it “the most moving address in all the Word of God.”

*Tohi Vete: Ngaahi lesoni ako ‘a Tevita Kuisaki ‘i he Tohi Senesi*

Ko e taukave naʻe fai ‘e Siuta kia Siosifa´, ko e sipinga ‘o e kole mei he loto ‘ofa moʻoni mo e liʻaki moʻui.

GOD IS . . . (KO E ‘OTUA, ‘OKU / KO E . . . )

GOD IS TRIUNE

Application

Finally, the Spirit brings us into communion with the Son and the Father (1 John 1:3). Apart from the Spirit, we would be as lifeless as the chairs we sit on. Owen writes,

All the consolations of the Holy Spirit consist in his acquainting us with, and communicating unto us, the love of the Father and the grace of the Son; nor is there any thing in the one or the other but he makes it a matter of consolation to us: so that, indeed, we have our communion with the Father in his love, and the Son in his grace, by the operation of the Holy Spirit.

In our prayer life, then, we are also faced with our triune God. As children we come to our Father in the name of Christ by the power of the Spirit. We need all three persons in our life, for our life has the Trinity stamped all over it.

Ko e ‘Otua´ ko e Tolu-ʻi he-Taha

Ko ‘ene fekauʻaki mo kitautolu´

Fakaʻosi´, ‘oku ‘omi kitautolu ‘e he Laumālie´ ke tau feohi mo e ‘Alo´ pea mo e Tamai´ (1 Sione 1:3). Ka ne ‘ikai ‘a e Laumālie´, te tau mate pe ‘o hangē ko e sea ‘oku tau tangutu ai´. ‘Oku pehē ‘e ‘Oueni;

Ko e ngaahi tapuaki ‘o e ngaue ‘a e Laumālie Maʻoniʻoni´, ko ‘ene fakafeʻiloaki kitautolu mo ‘Ene ‘Afio´, pea mo ‘ene tala meʻa mai kiate kitautolu, fekauʻaki mo e ‘ofa ‘a e Tamai´ pea mo e kelesi ‘a e ‘Alo´. ‘Oku ‘ikai haʻatau taau ki ai, ka ‘oku ne ‘omi ko hotau fakakoloa; koeʻuhi´ ke tau maʻu ‘a e feohi mo e Tamai´ ‘i heʻene ‘ofa´, pea mo e ‘Alo´ ‘i heʻene kelesi´, ‘o fou ‘i he ngaue ‘a e Laumālie Maʻoniʻoni´.

Pea ‘i heʻetau lotu´, ‘oku tau fehangahangai mo e Tolu-Tahaʻi-‘Otua´. ‘I hotau tuʻunga ko e fanau, ‘oku tau omi ki heʻetau Tamai´ ‘i he huafa ‘o e ‘Alo´ ‘o fou ‘i he ivi ‘o e Lamālie´. ‘Oku tau fiemaʻu kotoa ‘a e pesona ‘e tolu´ ‘i heʻetau moʻoui´, he ‘oku tā sitapaʻi ‘a e Tolu-tahaʻi-‘Otua´ ‘i heʻetau moʻui´.

  1. NO GREATER LOVE THAN THIS!
John 15:3 - Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.

  2. I love this part of Jospehs life. It’s sad to be in Joseph’s shoes right now because he probably felt the pain when his older brother fought for his baby brother after being sold...I know the older brothers couldn’t let anything happen to the baby of the family because he was the love of their fathers life!!! Joseph had all the power in the world to seek revenge but he didn’t and that’s because God didn’t have that planned for Joseph to do. I would do anything to protect my siblings older or younger! Today’s message to me tells me that I need God now more than ever and that if i trust and call upon the Trinity then I won’t ever have to be in a situation where I’d have to seek revenge for any reason 🤟🏼

  3. We can see that Judah has turn over a new leaf. His selflessness to lay down his life in exchange for his brother and also his commitment and love for towards his father.
Although Judah was far from home and away from his father he still chose to honor his father by following through on his promise. It was the only way that Jacob let Benjamin go because of Judahs word of reassurance that he would take care of Benjamin.
That's the lesson for us youth, our parents have raised us well and equipped us with the tools to be honorable. Even if they are not around to watch over what you're doing they have faith that you will do the right thing because you have been taught to be
