(v. 3-4) 3 Then he said, “I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for there I will make you into a great nation. 4 I myself will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also bring you up again, and Joseph’s hand shall close your eyes.”
(v. 3-4) 3 Pea ne folofola mai, Ko ‘ELA au, ko e ‘Otua ‘o ho‘o tamai: ‘oua te ke manavahē ke ‘alu hifo ki ‘Isipite, he te u ngaohi koe ‘i ai ko e kakai lahi: 4 te u ‘alu hifo mo koe ‘e au ki ‘Isipite, pea te u mātu‘aki ‘ohake koe: pea ko Siosifa te ne pooki ho mata.
*Commentary: The ESV Study Bible*
I myself will go down to Egypt. God had made and kept similar promises
when Jacob went to Paddan-aram (see 28:15).
I will also bring you up again (46:4) is both a promise of the exodus from Egypt like 15:13-16 and a reassurance that Jacob himself will be buried in the Promised Land. God reassures Jacob that his journey to Egypt will not undermine the divine promises that center on Canaan. Although Jacob will die in Egypt (49:33), he will then be buried with his ancestors, Abraham and Isaac, in Canaan (49:29-50:13). While the patriarchs died before witnessing the fulfillment of God's redemptive purposes for the whole world, they believed that their eternal destiny was secure because of their relationship with God (see Heb. 11:12-16,39).

GOD IS . . . (KO E ‘OTUA, ‘OKU . . )
2 GOD IS SIMPLE
Doctrine
The concept of divine simplicity is not easy to understand, but we must prioritize this vital truth taught by theologians throughout church history. God is free from all composition. He is not the sum of his parts. There is not one thing and another in God. Rather, whatever is in God, God is. He is absolute, which means that there are no distinctions within his being. As absolute, God alone is the sufficient reason for his eternal existence.

As I read how Josephs life unfolded. I am reminded of God's providential care still at work behind the scenes in the midst of chaos.(and how God does this behind the seams in our fabric of life) God had prepared Joseph for such a time as this to save God's people from this famine Christ forsaw coming. Though Joseph could not see nor fully understand why everything was happening to him, he still remained constant in his confidence through his faith in Christ. And remained ever so faithful in his pursuit after Christ.
ReplyDeleteI loved reading Genesis 45:12-13 (after having revealed himself to his brother) Joseph tells them to go back to Jacob and tell him all that he has (accorded) in Egypt in his time there. Which was just more proof that God prospered and blessed Joseph because of his full obedience to the Lord.
Today's passage reminded me yet again how God truly keeps his promises to us . God in all his sovereignty always takes care of his children through and through and Christ can NEVER be hindered. I have no excuses I have Gods full written copy of the word before me Joseph did not. On top of that Jacob like Abraham and all their descendants died before ever seeing the promise of the savior being born and dying on the cross fulfilled. Lord help me & continue to guide me Amen.
God always has a plan for our life like He did with Jacob. It may not be the result we are hoping for, but the peace we should have knowing we aren’t walking alone should give us some comfort in doing it!!! God will see us through to the end of His plans for our life because He is in control, and NOTHING we do is outta Gods control 💯
ReplyDeleteWhat an encouragement to know that the God of Jacob, was the same God of Abraham, the same of Noah and is the same God we serve. He is a God that takes care of his people. We should take solace in knowing that wherever we go and whatever we do God is always there by your side in every step. He provides relief in our time of struggle. Having fear of the uncertainties in life as Jacob did is a natural part of being human but knowing your ultimate destiny plus having faith in knowing God is by your side you start alleviate those fear.
ReplyDeleteAnd most important of all, our eternal destiny is secure because of our relationship with God. Our journey here on Earth is part-time. Our final destination is full-time and through our relationship with God and our acceptance of Jesus Christ into our heart as our Lord and savior, we will then one day be also in Canaan (Heaven) our promised land together with our forefathers.
