(v. 20) As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.
(v. 20) Ka ko kimoutolu na‘a mou tu‘utu‘uni ha kovi kiate au; ka ko e ‘Otua na‘a ne tu‘utu‘uni ia ko e lelei, koe‘uhi ke hoko ‘a e me‘a kuo hoko ni, ‘a e fakamo‘ui ‘o ha fu‘u kakai.
*Commentary: David Guzik Study notes on Genesis*
As for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good: Joseph did not romanticize the wrong his brothers did. He plainly said, “You meant evil against me.” Although this was true, it was not the greatest truth. The greatest truth was “God meant it for good.”
Every Christian should be able to see the overarching and overruling hand of God in their life; to know that no matter what evil man brings against us, God can use it for good.
Joseph did not have the text of Romans 8:28, but he had the truth of it: And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Sadly, many of us who have the text do not have the truth.
Ultimately, our lives are not in the hands of men, but in the hands of God, who overrules all things for His glory.

GOD IS . . . (KO E ‘OTUA, ‘OKU . . )
2 GOD IS SIMPLE
Doctrine
God is eternally, unchangeably, infinitely, blessedly, powerfully good. As pure act—that is, a fully realized being in which there is no development-God has life in himself. In this, we rejoice that nothing can change who God is, because even the slightest alteration to his attributes would exterminate God.

I was waiting to get to this part of the story of Joseph because it’s such a great story, and to see the plan that God had for his life during the difficult times and the great times...He was SOLD by his brother like what the heck all because of jealousy!! Who knew that he’d have to go through all this pain just to feel like the best brother ever...God meant for him to go through the rough times to which he thought was evil just so God could be magnified in the blessings he would be to his brothers and dad...Joseph at this point in his life could’ve imprisoned his brothers or had them tortured, yet God allowed Joseph in this position to take care of them and many more...Imagine with our huge families that we were going through this famine and we thought we were all gonna die from hunger only to have a close relative that was rich and could feed us all and many more even though we’ve probably done wrong to this person? That would be a life changing moment, and one that would humble you!! I love this story of Joseph 💯 Have a great day!!!

Today is a bittersweet day in the Bible. A legend and a forefather is laid to rest heralded by the elites and leaders of Egypt and his family. Then life continues on for Joseph, His siblings, and the mighty Egypt. Many wonderful lessons but one resonated with me today. V15-21. Where the brothers think that Joseph will now be mad at them - fakapo ka koe alunga e tangata! They have reconciled with their brother for years now and yet deep within their conscience they harbor the fear that their brother is secretly plotting their demise as payback. . . It’s easy to see why they thought to never truly ask for forgiveness. They instead wanted to just bury the past, hide behind Their father’s relationship with Joseph, and continue on. We do this a lot in our own walk of faith. Instead of asking for forgiveness for past transgressions we overcompensate to fool ourselves into thinking that doing good moving forward will cover for the grievous wrong done in the past! This is not so! Ask forgiveness! Seek clemency! there is where our true freedom lies. Then you don’t have to carry guilt with you.
Joseph’s reply and the manner of his delivery (in kindness) is truly everything 🙏🏻💕- “He isn’t God to punish!” What does that remind us? - that in our own lives and in response to the haters out there - being judge and jury is not our role- that alone belongs to God. Be diligent in Faith and practice Kindness and Mercy as Joseph did for his Brothers today. A lesson that bears retelling over and over again ❤️
I admire Joseph’s ability to see the big picture. Even though he went through a tremendous amount of pain at the hands of his brothers, he still was able to forgive them and have mercy on them because he knew it was all a part of God’s plan.
ReplyDeleteJoseph’s story is my favorite. For someone to go thru all that and still have faith in God is something i will always admire about the story of Joseph. God has a way of turning pain into joy, bad into good, but it actually makes sense bc He is the God that brings life to the dead.
ReplyDeleteJoseph understood the sovereignty of our Lord Jesus Christ. He took complete confidence in that very truth. It was fact to Joseph because it was profoundly demonstrated throughout Josephs life. Through the story of Joseph 3 truths stood out to me
ReplyDelete1 - God is capable of taking every facet of life, even great evil, & working it together to accomplish his will.
2 - No evil plan of humans could thwart the purposes of a sovereign God.
3 - I am reminded by Paul in Romans 8:28 "God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."
Joseph lived out Romans 8;28 and had no idea he was doing so. I admire Josephs faith and his choice to push through despite of his circumstances. I also respect the amount of understanding of the "bigger scope of things" like vita mentioned . Only someone who truly loves the Lord can accomplish such an attitude. Joseph has taught me what a submissive spirit & heart looks like. I pray that I as a fellow believer become so rooted in Christ that like Joseph , "I" understand that Gods work does not depend on me, but rather rests completely on Gods faithfulness. (& Never does Christ ever fail us)
