I will be a pledge of his safety
Ko au hono talifaki
(v. 9) I will be a pledge of his safety. From my hand you shall require him. If I do not bring him back to you and set him before you, then let me bear the blame forever.
(v. 9) Ko au hono talifaki; ko au te ke ‘eke ia ki ai: kapau ‘e ‘ikai te u ‘omi ia kiate koe, ‘o fokotu‘u ia ‘i ho ‘ao, pea te u hia kiate koe ‘o ta‘engata:
*Commentary: David Guzik Study notes on Genesis*
Judah put
his own life on the line as a surety for Benjamin. This is the first good thing
we see that Judah did. Previously, he was the one who had proposed the sale of
Joseph. He was the one who wronged his daughter-in-law Tamar and had sex with
her as a harlot.
***my own observation: a definite change (transformation) has taken place in the life of Judah after the incident with Tamar. God is steering him into a leadership role which will preview the ultimate surety (pledge) of the Messiah.
*Tohi Vete: Ngaahi lesoni ako ‘a Tevita Kuisaki ‘i he Tohi Senesi*

GOD IS . . . (KO E ‘OTUA, ‘OKU . . )
GOD IS TRIUNE
Application
The Spirit is also a guarantee for the
believer, because God has put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our
hearts as a guarantee" (2 Cor. 1:22; see also Eph. 1:13-14). He thus
assures us that we will receive what God has promised to us, which is why the
Spirit has been appropriately called "Comforter."
Ko e ‘Otua´ ko e Tolu-ʻi he-Taha
Ko ‘ene fekauʻaki mo kitautolu´
Ko e Laumālie´ ko e faka‘amanaki ia ki he

Pea kuo ne fakamoʻoni mai te tau maʻu ‘a e tapuaki kotoa pe kuo palomesi mai ‘e

Accountability is a major issue in today's society more so in younger generation. When setting up meetings for work, the other party will agree to a time but will cancel last minute or have "last" minute emergencies.
ReplyDeleteI'm the case of Judah, we have to step up and take responsibilities for our actions, for our word and for our lives. But most will never take that step because of fear. Fear of exposing yourself and your opinions, fear of being in the limelight and at the forefront. And that is the challenge for each one of us. Whether it's fear of posting on here because of what others might think, or fear of failing. Let's take responsibility for our life as Judah did. Be accountable to your words take risk because it's worth the reward.
Back in the day, a hand shake was your word. It was a bonding agreement. No contract needed. Unfortunately it is not today, so follow through today no matter how significant or insignificant it may be, because you have given your word.
Malo Peni e fakalotolahi mo e tā sipinga ki he kau talavou
DeleteWhat a contrast between Ruben & Judah. The presumed “leader” by birth and the actual leader by God’s providence.
ReplyDeleteRuben - “kill my two sons if I do not bring him back (Benjamin)”
Judah - “I will be a pledge of his safety...”
Jesus will come in the line of Judah to be the ultimate fulfillment of “standing in our place” as the Lion (protector) and substitutionary Lamb (sacrifice) 🙌🏽
