for the material they had was sufficient
He ko e me‘a kuo ma‘u na‘e fe‘unga
(v. 6-7) 6 So Moses gave command, and word was proclaimed throughout the camp, “Let no man or woman do anything more for the contribution for the sanctuary.” So the people were restrained from bringing, 7 for the material they had was sufficient to do all the work, and more.
(v. 6-7) 6 Ko ia na‘e fekau ‘e Mōsese, pea na‘a nau fanongonongo ‘i he ‘apitanga, ‘o pehē, ‘A tangata mo fafine, ‘oua na‘a toe ngaohi ha me‘a ka foaki ki he Fale Tapu. Ko ia na‘e ta‘ofi ‘a e kakai mei he ‘omi me‘a. 7 He ko e me‘a kuo ma‘u na‘e fe‘unga mo e fai ‘o e ngāue kotoa pē, ‘o hulu atu.
*Commentary: David Guzik Study notes on Exodus´*
The people bring much more than enough: This shows how blessed giving can be when free from human manipulation and tricks. Willing hearts will always give enough as God blesses the work – indeed, the people were restrained from bringing.
“When the heart is truly stirred, and the spirit makes willing, giving is robbed of all meanness; indeed, it ceases to be calculating. Nothing is too precious to be given, no amount is too great.” (Morgan)
“Compare the story of the anointing at Bethany (Matthew 26:7), and the generosity of the Philippian church (Philippians 4:14-19).” (Cole)
This also shows that Moses and the planners of the work knew how much was enough. They job was organized and planned to the extent that they understood what they needed, and when they had more than enough. When God’s people are asked to give to something, they should expect that it be well organized, planned, and managed.

Good morning and apologizes for being away too long to share my thoughts 😁 This mornings passages touches my heart greatly because I’ve always seen myself as someone who gives freely at the determent of having to ask my mom for gas money lol This morning Moses had to restrict people from giving because it was too much to say the least...These people gave freely because they weren’t told to give or told to give how much, they just gave...I totally believe that if you’re forced to give anything you would do it with anger and it wouldn’t mean anything in the end...For example, one time my uncles daughter came down from Tonga and she used one of my sisters jackets that my mom gave her niece...When my cousin was about to leave my mom said “oange ai pe saketi Ke alu mo ia” and my sister was mad 🤣 I can understand why because it was a jacket my sister wanted and she just bought...You can imagine how things went since my sister didn’t appreciate what my mom did...I do this sometimes too, but the morale of the message is that God always gives us more than we deserve and He does it willingly...In all that we do we should give willingly as well even if it overflows!!! Have a great day 💛

6 The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully[a] will also reap bountifully. 7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
As Solopani says it comes down to our hearts. As the saying goes,"oku vekeveke foaki Mei he loto lelei". Another aspect of giving is, it's easier to give when you have a whole cake then it is when you only have a slice.
ReplyDeleteGrowing up I've experience it many times even presently I still do with my parents which us kids have carried on. It didn't matter who needed help, whether there was food in the ice or enough finance for bills, everyone who needed a place to stay was welcome with open arms for as long as they needed. All of that without asking anything in return.
And I can testify to what you sow is what you reap phrase. No matter where my parents travel or anything they need they never are in need. They are blessed with gifts and love without asking for it.
Everything has a season. We may have plenty now and later we may not or vice versa, but what is important is that we give abundantly without expecting anything in return. Give from the heart whether you have a whole cake or only a slice.
Mo’oni ‘aupito Peni - Paul gave props to the Macedonians who gave from “their poverty” - foaki mei he ‘ango’ango! The widow’s mite - sacrificial giving! Godly giving - not necessarily from the abundance but from a genuine heart - moved by God (not motivated by greed - give to receive... like a lot of prosperity teachers) Jesus isn’t a cosmic slot machine - but obedience to Christ and His commands.
