“Ko e ‘Otua kakato”

Fehuʻi #2
Ko e hā ‘a e ‘Otua?
(What is God)

Ko e ‘Otuaʹ ko e tokotaha fakatupu mo e tokotaha ‘oku ne fakamaʻumaʻuluta ‘a e tokotaha kotoa pe pea mo e meʻa kotoa pe. ‘Oku lau ‘itāniti, taʻengata pea taʻeliliu ‘a hono iviʹ mo ‘ene haohaoaʹ, leleiʹ mo hono langilangiʹ, potoʹ, fakamaauʹ mo ‘ene moʻoniʹ. ‘Oku ‘ikai ha meʻa ‘e hoko mai ‘oku ‘ataʻatā meiate ia pea mo hono finangaloʹ.

(God is the creator and sustainer of everyone and everything. He is eternal, infinite, and unchangeable in his power and perfection, goodness and glory, wisdom, justice, and truth. Nothing happens except through him and by his will)

Komeniteli - D. A. Kāsoni
Commentary - D. A. Carson - cont...

Ko e meʻa mahuʻinga ke tau fakatokangaʻi mo mahinoʻi, ko e fakamatala mo e fakahinohino kuo ‘omi ‘e he ‘Otuaʹ kau kiate Ia ‘i he Folofolaʹ pea mo e ngaahi talanoa ‘i he Tohitapuʹ, ‘oku ‘uhinga ia ke ‘oua naʻa tau toʻo pe ha ‘ulungaanga ‘e taha ‘o e ‘Otuaʹ pea tau tala ko e kotoa ia ‘o e ‘Otuaʹ. ‘E ‘ikai te tau toʻo pe ‘a hono tuʻunga pule aoniuʹ, ka tau liʻaki ‘a ‘Ene fai leleiʹ. Pe, ke toʻo pe ‘ene fai leleiʹ kae liʻaki ‘a ‘ene maʻoniʻoniʹ (ko ‘ene maʻoniʻoniʹ ‘oku ne hoko ai ko e ‘Otua ‘o e fakamaauʹ). Pe, ko ‘etau toʻo pe ‘a ‘ene fakamaauʹ kae ngalo ko e ‘Otua ia ‘o e ‘ofa; ko e ‘Otua naʻe ‘ofa fau ‘i heʻene meʻa fakatupu angatuʻuʹ, naʻa ne fekauʻi hifo ‘a Hono ‘Alo peleʹ ke ne fua ‘a ‘enau angahalaʹ ‘i hono sino ‘oʻonaʹ ‘i he ‘akau fakalavaʹ.

What’s really important to see and understand, as God has disclosed himself not only in words but in the whole storyline of the Bible’s narrative, is that we are not permitted to take one attribute of God and make everything of it. We cannot, let’s say, take his sovereignty and forget his goodness. Or take his goodness and forget his holiness (his holiness is what makes him the God of judgment). Or take his judgment and forget he’s the God of love; the God who has so much loved even his rebellious creatures that ultimately he sent his Son to bear their sins in his own body on the tree.
