Leading us to humility

33 Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!
36 For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen. – Romans 11:33, 36

The Plan of Grace

Practical repercussions

Having looked at a few verses and concepts as we continue this journey, and although our study has academic benefits, the hope is that we will all come away with a renewed love and appreciation for the scope and fullness of what we have in Christ. We will see more fully the pattern of the plan of God and gain an increase sense of the marks of being a Christian.

This should lead us to a deeper humility. Humility is not simply feeling small and useless – like an inferiority complex. It is sensing how great and glorious God is, and seeing myself in that light. Humility in Scripture is the fruit of grace, not a fear. It is God’s love which makes man truly humble. Now, Scripture emphasizes these aspects of the Christian life to show us the depth and length, the breadth and height of the love of God. When we see that, we are humbled by the knowledge that God cares so much about us.

Challenge: Take some time today, to get alone with God and pour out your heart in love for His great and wonderful gifts.

And when I think of God, His son not sparing,
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing
He bled and died to take away my sin

Then sings my soul My Savior, God, to Thee
How great thou art How great thou art
Then sings my soul My Savior, God, to Thee
How great Thou art How great Thou art

This Day in Christian History:

February 1, ca. 453 – Death of Brigid of Ireland. A slave with royal blood who was stubbornly generous toward slaves and the poor. She traveled by chariot through the countryside helping the poor, preaching the gospel and organizing nunneries. Christians across Ireland place St. Brigid’s crosses of wooden straw over their doors on February 1.

Memory Verse:

In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will
- Ephesians 1:11
