FAITH REQUIRES KNOWLEDGE

KO E TUI, KUOPAU KE KAU KI AI ‘A E ‘ILO

ROMANS 10:17

Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.

LOMA 10:17

Tā ‘oku tupu ‘a e tui mei he fanongo, pea ‘oku fai ‘a e fanongo ko e ‘i ai ha folofola ‘a Kalaisi.

Sola Fide - Faith Alone - Ko e Tui´ pe

Faith is the simplest of all things, and perhaps because of its simplicity it is the more difficult to explain. What is faith? It is made up of three things; knowledge, belief, and trust. Knowledge comes first. "How shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard?" I want to be informed of a fact before I can possibly believe it. "Faith cometh by hearing"; we must first hear, in order that we may know what is to be believed. "They that know thy name shall put their trust in Thee.” A measure of knowledge is essential to faith; hence the importance of getting knowledge.

"Incline your ear, and come unto me; hear, and your soul shall live." Such was the word of the ancient prophet, and it is the word of the Gospel still. Search the Scriptures and learn what the Holy Spirit teacheth concerning Christ and His salvation. Seek to know God: "For he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him." May the Holy Spirit give you the spirit of knowledge, and of the fear of the Lord!

  1. PLOW principle re-worked...

P - plot. What is the "Subject" (noun) of the verse.
L - line. What is the "Verb"(s)? What is the action? Look for commands.
O - ontology ('OTUA) what does the passage say about God? His character, his works? Christ and His works?
W - worker (us) What does the text say about man's condition?
** always end with "worship" - write out a prayer of confession or commitment based on today's devotional. You may also write a commitment to do (work) something about what you learned today.

Hope this clarification helps and encourage you to engage with the Word on the daily.

  2. Today's verse:

    Romans 10:17
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ (ESV)

P - plot. What is the “Subject”? = faith; word of Christ

L - line. What is the “Verb” = comes, hearing

O - ontology. What does the verse say about God? This is not so obvious, but re-read it. So, the way we receive faith is “hearing” through the word of Christ…okay.. Can be say, that Christ is the source of faith? Do you see the logic? We can then write - this verse points us back to God in Christ’ word!

W - worker (me) - I need faith. I need to listen (stay in the word). Abide in God’s Word in order to stay faithful to Him.
“Worship” - Lord, thank you for your gift of faith through Jesus Christ. Continue to work in me so that I may love your word in order that I may stay faithful to you. Amen.
