CLEAVE TO THE WORD

PIPIKI KI HE ‘ENE FOLOFOLA

PSALM 119:14

I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches.

SAAME 119:14

Kuo u hākahaka ‘i he ‘alunga ‘o ho‘o ngaahi fakamo‘oni, ‘O tatau mo ‘ete ma‘u ha koloa lahi.

Sola Scriptura - Scripture Alone - Ko e Folofola´ pe

The true difference between godly faith and human faith consists also in this, that human faith cleaves to the person of the preacher, believes, trusts, and honors the Word for the sake of him who spake it. But godly faith, on the other hand, cleaves to the Word, which is God Himself; he believes, trusts, and honors the Word, not because of him who preaches it, but because he feels so surely the truth that no one can ever turn him again from it, even if the same preacher were to try to do it.

This was proved by the Samaritans when they had heard first of Christ from the heathen woman and upon her word they went out of the city to Christ. After they themselves heard Christ, they said to the woman, "Now we believe, not because of thy speaking: for we have heard for ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Savior of the world."

MARTIN LUTHER

    1. After re-reading and putting this breakdown into context, it speaks volumes. This prayer here states how the psalmist express his great joy in abiding and keeping by God'd commands. There is joy that comes from God's words because we understand as God's protection from hurt in this world. Do I value his word like "great riches"? Something with most value? Praise God, I desire to continue to seek Him first

  2. I-- identify, ownership
    rejoice--positive-outward expression, physically and emotionally
in following--- choosing a path and going forward.
your statutes---law or commands and decree given by God
as one rejoices--- positive self expression
in great riches---something of abundant value or importance.
Rejoicing in following his law and commandments becomes a burden when we start to compare to others who are not living in his words, but if we live and focus on God's word then it becomes a lifestyle instead of a to do list.
We have to put value on things important like God's law in order for it to be valuable. We don't follow what's popular to the masses but follow God's word because we want to and it's the right thing.

  3. I think we can all identify with wealth - not that any of us (I may be wrong) are swimming in cash but a comparison is made in this passage: God’s statutes & great riches! The Psalmist acknowledge our tendency to be “happy” with riches! We work hard to earn and wish our parents had more of it - thinking that “riches” (wealth) will bring happiness. And maybe, for a time we will feel as if we have it all! Imagine that (not having any more financial care) verses finding joy in God’s Word - something to the naked eyes may not be so impressive or valuable - our flesh will say that. Humanism will say that.

Let this be a litmus test to our soul… what brings me joy?Be honest. Allow God’s Spirit to search us and reveal what needs to be dealt with 🙏🏼
