THE GOSPEL INVITATION

KO E TOHI FAKAAFE ‘A E KOOSIPELI

MATTHEW 28:19

Go and make disciples of all nations

MATIU 28:19

Ko ia, ke mou ō, ‘o ngaohi ‘a e ngaahi kakai kotoa pē ko ‘eku kau ako, ‘i he papitaiso kinautolu ki he Huafa ‘o e Tamai mo e ‘Alo mo e Laumālie Mā‘oni‘oni

Sola Scriptura - Scripture Alone - Ko e Folofola´ pe

This is a Gospel full of consolation, setting forth the Lord His character is, what His works are, and how He is affected toward men. And we cannot better understand it than by setting in contrast light and darkness, day and night; that is, a good and a bad shepherd, for this is what Christ does. You have often heard that God has ordained two kinds of preaching to the world. The one, which sets forth the Word of God "Thou shalt have no other gods," likewise, "Thou shaft not kill, commit adultery, or steal” - and thereupon threatens that whosoever does not keep these commandments shall die. This teaching, however, does not purify any man's heart; for although a man may thereby be so restrained from these things as to show himself outwardly righteous, yet inwardly his heart is hostile to the law, and would prefer that there were no law at all.

The other office of preaching is the Gospel, which shows you where that strength is to be obtained that shall enable you to do that which the law demands: this preaching does not force men, nor threaten them, but sweetly invites them.

MARTIN LUTHER

  1. Go---given the green light. Given permission to move forward. A command to follow.
And make--- to create and bring forth. To create something from nothing
Disciples---training, followers in your footsteps, student. A person to impart vision and knowledge unto. Worker.
    Of all--- includes everything, whole.
Nations---A community, a group who share common descent, history. A large group untied under a common interest, language, culture and govern by a form of power.
This passage was after Jesus was resurrected and he told the disciples to meet him at the mountain. When they saw him they still doubted it was him and Jesus said he was given power over heaven and earth. He then instructed them...
As the title say. This is an invitation. Invitation for you and I to show and teach the word of God to others but first, we must teach ourselves. We must become disciples of Jesus.

    1. Amen, I like how Martin Luther reminds us at the end that it “sweetly invites”. It is not to force, push it down someone’s throat, or scare them, bully etc. haha, but this is a “sweet” reminder for us as JYL to be as such and let the word invite as it may.

  2. Chapter 28 talks about when Christ was risen. In verse 19 Jesus says to “Go” take action or move forward in what we proceed in. “And make” to create something. “Disciples” one who accepts and assists in spreading the doctrines of another: such as a Christianity. “Of all” used to refer to the whole quantity. “Nations” a Community of people with different backgrounds. To me this verse talks about how we should take action in what we believe in. Become one of the disciples Jesus was talking about. There are many ways for us to acknowledge what God gave us & use it to go out into the world & spread his gospel. We can preach all we want but it’s most important we take it into consideration & follow through with everything we say. As a Christian it’s important that I myself practice what I preach.

    1. Malo Seta. “Context” is the overall scope - breaking the verse down the verse is like parts to a car - context is the car. You won’t take a part a car 🚗 to know it better - then reassemble it and conclude that its a camel 🐪 🤷🏻‍♂️😅

Keep at it. It will come. Remember, the Holy Spirit is your Guide 🙏🏼

    2. I'm currently putting back together a car(engine, transmission, clutch) so that analogy is hilarious to me right now.. might not be a camel but definitely a lot missing and leftover bolts...lol

    1. For sure! “Evangelism” rests “solely” in the power of God! (Rom 1:16). I used to be so worked up about talking to someone about Christ - because I felt, “I” had to convince them… not so! The power and responsibility rest in Christ! When we understand this, then we preach, share out of “obedience” because He is the One drawing people to Himself - even though He uses us to do it. I am not there to “convert” anyone but to allow the Holy Spirit to work through me for His glory!
