****FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS – WE WILL BE OBSERVING “PASSION WEEK” (HOLY WEEK) – OUR READ THROUGH THE BIBLE CHAPTERS WILL STILL BE GIVEN BUT FOCUS WILL BE ON JESUS’ LAST DAYS ON EARTH***

Veesi Lauloto: Kolose 1:15

Maundy Thursday (Tu ‘apulelulu Tu‘u tu‘uni)

 Tuʻapulelulu ‘Epeleli 1, 2021

A new commandment I give to you

Ko e tu‘utu‘uni fo‘ou ‘oku ou tuku kiate kimoutolu,

‘Ekisoto 38 (Exodus 38)

Christ's "mandate" is commemorated on Maundy Thursday---"maundy" being a shortened form of mandatum (Latin), which means "command."  It was on the Thursday of Christ's final week before being crucified and resurrected that He said this commandment to His disciples. Jesus and his disciples had just shared what was known as the Last Supper and he was washing their feet when he stated:

"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another" (John 13:34).

Ko e tu‘utu‘uni fo‘ou ‘oku ou tuku kiate kimoutolu, Ke mou fe‘ofa‘aki: hangē ā ko ‘eku ‘ofa‘i kimoutolu, ke pehē foki ho‘omou fe‘ofa‘aki.

(Sione 13:34)

Beloved, let us love one another. For love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. (1 John 4:7-8)

Si‘i ‘ofa‘anga, ke tau fe‘ofa‘aki mu‘a: he ko ‘ofa ko e tupu mei he ‘Otua ia; pea ko ia kotoa pē ‘oku ‘ofa kuo fanau‘i ia mei he ‘Otua, pea ‘oku ne ‘ilo‘i ‘a e ‘Otua. Ko ia ‘oku ‘ikai te ne ‘ofa, kuo ‘ikai te ne momo‘i ‘ilo‘i ‘a e ‘Otua; he ko e ‘Otua ko e ‘ofa (1 Sione 4:7-8)

During supper, Jesus washes the disciples' feet, interacts with them, and delivers the Upper Room Discourse (Farewell Discourse).

  1. Good morning brothers and sisters.

I can’t imagine being in Jesus’ shoes during these final days before His crucifixion. His strength beams from these chapters because even in His last hours He served and he taught valuable lessons especially to love one another. Jesus is who I try to live up to but I fall short everyday. So much strength taken from just saying for this cup to be passed over would not be His Will but that of the Father!!! I can imagine saying “Im sorry but this is not gonna happen, Lord You’re gonna need to find someone else for the job because I’m not doing it!” It’s not easy to love someone and die for them...We’re selfish humans and majority of the time we’d look out for ourselves and not serve or encourage like Jesus did in His final hours on earth with His disciples. I thank God for life everyday and although my middle name is Feofaaki (Love one another), I’m far from portraying this commend on a daily but I’ll try my best to get it together.

    Happy Holy Week 💙🙏🏼

Section. Very true. His commandments are our life line. His power, our source of strength.

  2. They say yolo. But imagine knowing how you will die, when you will die and why. It's amazing the self discipline Jesus had and the obedience until his final day. I think prisoners are the only people I know of who knows when they will did and get to plan their "last meal".
Even in his last moment he knew that the people closes to him will disappoint him the most. We sometimes think that having lots of friends on social media is great. To an extent it is, but we are reminded it's important to surround ourselves with the people we love but the person at the forefront should be Jesus because when everyone else disappoint and everything fails, Jesus is always there and will never abandon us. Even in the last day of his life he was still willing to save you and me from sin.
