good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

As
Jesus continued His Sermon on the Mount, He taught that religious behaviors,
specifically giving, praying, and fasting-can be carried out through healthy or
unhealthy motives. The inappropriate motive focuses on recognition and
attention, while the appropriate motive is aimed at sacrifice and worship of
God. Included in this teaching is Jesus' well-known "model prayer,"
which highlights prayer as a means of worshiping God, aligning ourselves with
His will, and depending on Him to meet our daily physical and spiritual needs.
The rest of Matthew 6 addresses our priorities from a Kingdom perspective.
Jesus
was particularly concerned with showing how anxiety and worry can prevent us
from receiving the full benefit of God's blessing. This is important because
our priorities get the bulk of our time and attention, and they reveal our
level of trust in God. Kingdom people should aspire to a singular focus on God
and a loyalty to Him. Worry is the opposite of trust in God.
