Blood Moon
Mahino Toto
JOEL 2:30-32
AND I WILL SHOW WONDERS IN THE HEAVENS AND ON THE EARTH, BLOOD AND FIRE AND COLUMNS OF SMOKE. THE SUN SHALL BE TURNED TO DARKNESS, AND THE MOON TO BLOOD, BEFORE THE GREAT AND AWESOME DAY OF THE LORD COMES, AND IT SHALL COME TO PASS THAT EVERYONE WHO CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD SHALL BE SAVED
SIOELI 2:30-32
30 Pea te u ‘ai ‘a e ngaahi me‘a fakaofo ‘i he langi pea ‘i māmani, ko e toto, mo e afi, mo e ngaahi pou kohu. 31 ‘E liliu ‘a e la‘ā ‘o po‘uli, mo e māhina ‘o toto, ‘i he tei hoko ‘a e ‘Aho ‘o Sihova, ‘a e ‘aho lahi mo fakalilifu. 32 Pea ‘e hoko ‘o pehē, ko ia ‘oku tautapa ki he huafa ‘o Sihova ‘e fakahaofi: he ai ha kau hao ‘i Mo‘unga Saione mo Selusalema, ‘o hangē ko e folofola ‘a Sihova, pea ‘e ‘i he kau toe ‘a kinautolu ‘oku ui ‘e Sihova.
In Revelation, when John sees the sixth seal opened, creation comes unraveled (6:12-17). The earth quakes. The sun blackens. Stars fall. The sky scrolls. And the moon turns to blood. He sees what the prophets saw, for Haggai foretold the shaking of heaven and earth (2:6), and Joel the yare'ach ["moon") becoming like blood. Why blood? Because, as Isaiah says, the Lord's sword "has drunk its fill in the heavens" (34:5). The yare'ach is sprayed with the blood of judgment, the "wrath of the Lamb" (Rev. 6:16), that befalls the unbelieving world. A "blood moon" is not some sign that the end is near; it means the end is here.
What follows is the "great and awesome day of the LORD," when those who "call upon the name of the LORD" will be saved. Their home will be the New Zion, "the city [that] has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb" (Rev. 21:23).
Lamb of God, "give us life, and we will call upon your name!" (Ps. 80:18).
