יהוה יראה Mt.Moriah

Mo’unga Molaia

GENESIS 22:14

SO ABRAHAM CALLED THE NAME OF THAT PLACE,  “LORD WILL PROVIDE"; AS IT IS SAID TO THIS DAY, "ON THE THE MOUNT OF THE LORD IT SHALL BE PROVIDED.";

SENESI 22:14

Pea na‘e fakahingoa ‘e ‘Epalahame ‘a e potu ko ia ko Sihova-siaila [ko Tokonaki-pē-‘e-Sihova] –‘o hangē ko e lea ‘oku fakatokotokanaki ‘aki ‘i onopooni “‘I he mo‘unga ‘o Sihova ‘e hā.”

God told Abraham to sacrifice Isaac "in the land of Moriah" (Gen. 22:2). When God spared Isaac, Abraham named Moriah Yahweh Yireh ("the LORD will provide"). Why? Abraham is playing off the name Moriah, which is connected to the verb ra'ah ("to see"). Yireh is also from the verb ra'ah. Yahweh Yireh thus has to do with the Lord seeing or being seen. Moriah is the place where the Lord will "see to it" that a sacrifice is provided.

On this mountain in Jerusalem, where Abraham built an altar, David built an altar to stop a plague from God, then Solomon built the temple with its altar (2 Chron. 3:1). Throughout the generations, on Moriah the Lord "saw to it" that sacrifices were provided. When Jesus "set his face to go to Jerusalem" (Luke 9:51), he was in sync with Moriah's tradition. By divine necessity, his death had to take place near Moriah. He is the promised seed of Abraham, the one who stops the plague of sin, who is the true temple and true sacrifice appointed. In Jesus, God "sees to it" that all our salvation is provided for.

See to it, heavenly Father, that we are in your Son, and he in us, that we receive from him all you desire us to have.
