The Architect of the World

Ko e tufunga lahi ‘o Mamani

PROVERBS 8:29-31

"WHEN [GOD] ASSIGNED TO THE SEA ITS LIMIT, SO THAT THE WATERS MIGHT NOT TRANSGRESS HIS COMMAND, WHEN HE MARKED OUT THE FOUNDATIONS OF THE EARTH, THEN I WAS BESIDE HIM, LIKE A MASTER WORKMAN, AND I WAS DAILY HIS DELIGHT, REJOICING BEFORE HIM ALWAYS, REJOICING IN HIS INHABITED WORLD AND DELIGHTING IN THE CHILDREN OF MAN."

PALOVEPI 8:29-31

29 ‘I he‘ene ‘ai ki he ‘ōseni ‘ene tu‘utu‘uni, Pea ki he tahi, ke ‘oua te nau laka ‘i he me‘a kuo ne fekau. ‘I he‘ene ‘ange ‘a e ngaahi tu‘unga ‘o māmani,30 Ko e taimi ko ia na‘a ku ‘i hono tafa‘aki, Ko e tufunga lahi, ‘O u hākailangitau he ‘aho kotoa pē; ‘O u fiefia ‘i hono ‘ao he taimi kotoa pē; 31 ‘O u lata ki he ngaahi potu ‘o hono māmani na‘e nofo‘anga kakai; ‘Io, ko ‘eku neka na‘e ‘i he hako ‘o ‘Ātama.

Wisdom (chokmah) is speaking - the Wisdom that is of God, with God, begotten by God. At the beginning, Wisdom says, I was with the Creator (8:22). Indeed, Wisdom is the Beginning, by which God created the heavens and the earth. Before the mountains were shaped, when no seas yet roared, "when he established the heavens, I was there" (v. 27). "I was beside him, like an amon" (v. 30). This rare Hebrew word probably means "master work-man, craftsman, or artisan." The Father's Wisdom, Word, Son is the world's architect, rejoicing before the Creator, "rejoicing in his inhabited world and delighting in the children of man" (v. 31).

What a picture! Humanity's amon, the architect of the world, dances with joy over us! He quiets us by his love and exults over us with singing (Zeph. 3:17). That singing reached its crescendo when, for the joy set before him, he endured the cross, scorning its shame, that he might delight even more in the children of man whom he had saved.

All praise, glory, and thanksgiving be to you, Jesus our Wisdom, for making us as your own.
